This week, YouthServe volunteers spent a morning at Irondale Community School's summer program reading with students, helping with activities, and supporting teachers and staff. 📖✏️

One of the most meaningful parts of service is simply showing up. By sharing their time and energy, these volunteers helped create a fun and encouraging environment for young learners while building connections across age groups.

At Hoover Public Library's Crafting Kindness event, our volunteers showed that creativity can be a powerful way to give back. From friendship bracelets representing causes they care about to handmade bouquets and upcycled t-shirt yarn, these young people spent the afternoon turning simple materials into something meaningful.

This weekend, our volunteers spent an afternoon with Community on the Rise learning how recycled plastics are transformed into jewelry that supports survivors of homelessness.

After touring the workshop and seeing the process firsthand, students created their own jewelry pieces. The best part is that the pieces they made will be sold to help support Community on the Rise's mission!

When school ends for the summer, housing instability increases for many young people in our community. Most people never see that reality up close, which is why opportunities to learn and engage matter so much.

Dignity Without Doors gives students ages 12–18 the opportunity to learn more about homelessness in our community through hands-on activities and meaningful conversations. Participants will also help assemble hygiene kits for neighbors experiencing homelessness.
