We are proud to sponsor an event with Merely Human Ministries, INC at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. The two premier speakers will be Carl Trueman and Paul Kingsnorth. Breakout speakers provided by Apologetics, Inc.

They will be discussing what it means to be human in a rapidly changing world. Some parts of this discussion will center around what it means to resist the machinations of the current modern era and how these new ideologies are actually desecrating the image of God in mankind.

Being Human Speakers: Paul Kingsnorth, Friday Night with panel and Q&A

In Against the Machine, "furiously gifted" (The Washington Post) novelist, poet, and essayist Paul Kingsnorth presents a wholly original - and terrifying - account of the technological - cultural matrix enveloping all of us. With masterful insight into the spiritual and economic roots of techno-capitalism, Kingsnorth reveals how the Machine, in the name of progress, has choked Western civilization, is destroying the earth itself, and is reshaping us in its image.

It takes effort to remain truly human in the age of the Machine. (From the jacket copy of Against the Machine)

I have been teaching the Aeneid in my Core Texts classes, and one image has stayed with me. It is Bernini’s sculpture of Aeneas escaping from Troy with his father, Anchises, on his shoulders and his young son, Ascanius, following close behind. Troy is burning. The home they have known is being destroyed. Aeneas cannot save the city, but he can carry his father and bring his son with him. Anchises, in turn, carries the household gods. Even as they leave, they are taking something of their home with them.
