Urban Purpose

Urban Purpose Building relationships, meeting needs in crisis, and rebuilding lives in Birmingham, AL.

Urban Purpose exists to build relationships with those in need throughout our city, surround them with safe people, and offer healthy options for them to utilize in the journey of rebuilding their lives. When you know someone’s name, when you sit with them and you share a meal, and when you hear their story, then the doors open for us to do some pretty incredible things here in our city in caring for people that are desperate to know how much they’re loved.

As the year comes to a close, we want to say how grateful we are for you. Your support has carried us through another year of ministry, and we’ve seen God’s faithfulness in so many ways.

There are only a few hours left to make a year-end, tax-deductible gift. 💛 Your generosity tonight will help us welcome more people through the doors of the Compound in the year ahead — people who need warmth, safety, dignity, and hope.

It starts here. It starts with you. 💪🏼 Give in these final hours at urbanpurpose.org/hope25

Every gift matters. Every gift helps someone living on the streets find warmth, dignity, and the reminder that they’re not forgotten.

Hope starts here.
Hope starts with YOU.
💪🏼
It takes at least $50,000 a year to keep the Compound day shelter open for Troy, Tony, and 150+ homeless and hurting folks downtown.

The Compound is a beacon of God's love downtown, providing for essential needs like showers, clean clothing, and nutritious snacks while also creating opportunities to build relationships and share the Gospel with the homeless.
✝️
Your year-end gift helps us welcome more of our homeless neighbors in off the streets and offer more stability, consistency, and dignity.

Offer transformation to the most vulnerable today by giving at urbanpurpose.org/hope25 💛

One of the hardest parts of our week is knowing there are days when the Compound simply can’t be open. We see the need and we know what could happen if we were able to open more often.
💔
With your help, we can move toward that future.

We’re raising support this month to expand our hours at the Compound so we can offer more showers, meals, and hope >> Give at urbanpurpose.org/hope25 to help make that happen 💪🏼

The first time Troy came to the Compound, he looked at Karen, a weekly volunteer, with a half-smile and asked, “So… what do you think about everything going on in the country right now?”

It definitely wasn’t the usual small talk... it was his way of opening the door to a real conversation. And that’s very much who Troy is — thoughtful, curious, and genuinely interested in how the world works beyond his own immediate challenges.

As we spent more time with him, we realized a simple, but important, need... clothing that actually fits.

Troy is a large man, and donated items almost never come in his size. Once we had his measurements, one of our volunteers purchased shirts, pants, and underwear — not as charity, but as a practical way of telling him he is seen and cared for.

Over time, our conversations with Troy have covered all kinds of topics, like what he’s been reading, what he sees happening locally, and his hopes and dreams for the future.

Troy is putting in the work to get his commercial driver's license. He has goals and he’s pursuing them one step at a time. And we are honored to walk alongside him as he does.

Transformation rarely begins with dramatic moments. Instead, it begins in relationship — in steady presence, shared conversations, and small acts of care that open the door to something new

Hope starts at the Compound.
And with your support, we can change more lives like Troy's!

Sometimes the work at the Compound feels like a collection of small moments that quietly add up, like the familiar tune of "Happy Birthday" drifting through the room, or a hot shower after a long week, or someone simply just remembering your name.

✨Often, it's one of those moments that sparks real transformation.✨

Every gift this season helps us open our doors more often to those who need rest, warmth, and dignity 💛 Give at the link in our bio to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable today!

This year, hope showed up through hundreds of volunteers — in music, food, deep-cleaning, laughter, and shared humanity.

The Dawson Chapel Jazz Band lifted weary spirits. The Samford Gospel Choir filled the room with joyful worship. Shades Mountain Baptist Church created evenings of laughter and belonging.

Student groups deep-cleaned. Others shared food and fellowship our homeless neighbors. Still others donated hygiene items, collected backpacks, or simply offered a warm smile at the door.

When a city comes together to serve its most vulnerable neighbors, hope finds its footing.

We’re raising support this month to expand our hours so we can offer more hot showers, more clean laundry, and more hope.

Give now at urbanpurpose.org/hope25 to realize that dream for our community!

All across Birmingham, we continue to see people living out their faith in small, steady ways... simply showing up for neighbors who often feel unseen. Thanksgiving week, folks showed up with compassion to donate crucial winter supplies for our homeless friends. The hot drinks, warm clothing & hygiene supplies will help our neighbors living on the streets survive the colder winter months.

You can still provide for the vulnerable by donating today at urbanpurpose.org/hope25 💛 Anything helps our neighbors in need!

When Troy first walked into the Compound, he wasn’t looking for a handout. He works night shifts in security and sleeps in his car during the day... the only shelter he has right now.

One day, he shared a quiet dream with one of our regular volunteers, Karen — he wanted to earn his CDL. He wanted stability, better pay, and a path forward for the future. So Karen sat with him, filled out the paperwork, gathered what he needed, and helped him take the next step toward that dream.

Troy is doing the work one step at a time, and we are honored to walk alongside him.

Your generosity allows us to keep the Compound going and share Christ’s love in practical, life-giving ways. Give today towards this live-saving mission at urbanpurpose.org/hope25 💛

Sometimes at the Compound, the most meaningful moments could easily be missed — they’re the quiet conversations we share with men and women who are trying to get through another day while holding onto the hope that tomorrow might be different.

Every gift this season helps us open our doors more often to those who need a place to rest, clean up, and be treated with dignity.
