Hey Homewood! This is a special year for us as we turn 100! Explore Centennial resources on our website: https://bit.ly/3ZBOmQg. And as we count down to our official birthday later this year, you will notice Centennial moments appearing all around town. One of those is already on display in the lobby at City Hall. Our Centennial art show features the work of Dorothy Dot Griffis Jones, with an official opening on February 19.

Born in 1926, Dorothy spent more than 55 years creating art in watercolor, oil, acrylic, ink, collage, and photography. Her work appeared in more than 70 shows and is part of private and corporate collections across the region. She also taught art for over 25 years at the Birmingham Museum of Art and UAB, helping generations of students learn to truly see the world around them.

As we celebrate 100 years of Homewood, it feels right to honor someone who spent her life creating beauty right here at home.

Please join us in celebrating the art and life of Dorothy Jones on Thursday, February 19.
Alongside the recognition of Homewood’s centennial, the Homewood Arts Council is proudly featuring the art of the late Dorothy Jones, a local Homewood artist with a strong footprint in the arts community, who would have turned 100 years old this year.

Several of her pieces have been gifted to the City of Homewood by her son, David Jones. We are so grateful for his generous donation to our community.
