Early Bird African Violet Club

The Early Birds have been meeting regularly in Birmingham, Alabama, since 1981 to discuss African Violets, our favorite botanical addiction.

We meet on the second Saturday of the Non-summer months at 10:00am - (Exclude -June, July and August). We hope you will visit or join us and learn more about these

fascinating, beautiful plants! Saintpaulia is commonly known as an African Violet. The genus is named after Baron Walter von Saint Paul-Illaire (1860–1910), the district commissioner of Tanga province who discovered the plant in Tanganyika (now Tanzania) in Africa in 1892. Huge congratulations to all winners and participants at Dixie! What a show! Everyone is invited to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to see the exhibits and visit the sales room. Doors open at 8:00, Saturday the 21st, and close at 3:00.

Lots of plants and supplies for sale at the 2023 Dixie Convention and Show at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Sales open at 8:00 on Friday, October 20. The show opens to the public at 1:00. See you there!
