Sweet photos from a client birth this past weekend! 🤍

With the support of her doula and amazing partner, this client was able to achieve her birth goals and welcome a beautiful, healthy baby girl!

As the client shared: “She was so attentive and supportive! She helped me with pain management and showered me with many praises!"

We often hear people say “I don’t want to have a doula because I don't want a stranger in the room.”

We get it. Birth is personal, and it makes sense to want to feel comfortable with the people supporting you.

But your doula doesn’t have to be a stranger. You can meet them before birth, build a relationship, and talk about what support feels right for you.

And while you may meet your nurse or provider for the first time when you arrive at the hospital, your doula can be someone you already know and trust.

That’s one of the benefits of having a doula 🫶🤰

Join one of our upcoming doula trainings!

Our doula training gives you the knowledge, hands-on skills, and confidence to support families through some of their biggest moments. You’ll learn comfort measures, childbirth education, communication and advocacy, and the basics of building your doula practice.

You’ll also connect with other aspiring doulas and become part of a growing community of people working to make doula support more accessible in Alabama.

Doulas do NOT replace partners and other family members!

A doula is another member of your birth team. Your partner and support people know you best and have an important role in your birth. A doula brings special training and experience to support both the birthing person and their support team.

A doula can help partners know how to best support the birthing person. They can show partners comfort measures, suggest ways to help during labor, explain what is happening, and offer ideas when the partner is not sure what to do.

Birth is a team effort, and doulas are there to help everyone feel supported and prepared🫶

We’re excited to spotlight one of our amazing doula work-study participants, Tiffany!

BirthWell’s work-study program helps make doula training more accessible by allowing eligible participants to offset some or all of their training costs through service to BirthWell families. It’s a win-win: aspiring doulas gain training and hands-on experience, while BirthWell families receive doula support.

Since completing her training, Tiffany has supported 4 families and gone on to earn more than 10 additional certifications and trainings to continue growing her skills and the support she can offer families.

We love seeing how our work-study participants continue to grow, learn, and build their careers as birthworkers. We’re so proud to have been a part of her journey!🥹👏
