Equality in action. 🧡
Today, The Surge Project recognizes National Women’s Equality Day by celebrating the women who continue to learn, grow, lead, and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

For us, supporting women’s equality means more than acknowledging the importance of equal opportunity — it means helping make that opportunity possible.

Through education, workforce development, and access to resources, we work to equip women with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue their goals and build stronger futures.

Because equality isn’t just about opening doors. It’s about making sure people have the tools to walk through them.

Y’all know T. 🤎

But today, we want to take a moment to share a little more about the heart behind The Surge Project.

In June 2012, T. received news no family ever wants to hear. At just 22 years old, her brother’s life was taken by two teenagers.
In the midst of unimaginable loss, as the young men responsible faced sentencing, T.’s mother shared words that would stay with her:

“Neither one of us wins.”

Those words became a call to action.
Instead of allowing tragedy to be the end of the story, T. made a commitment to community, and to creating pathways toward healing, opportunity, and a different future for our young people.

After four years of preparation and deep community work, The Surge Project launched in June 2016.

This is the story behind the work.
