Sometimes progress looks like…no floors. 😂🔨
There is a LOT happening at Bare Hands Community Arts Center! Old materials are coming out, new framing is going in, and plumbing, electrical, and structural work are moving forward.
It may look a little wild, but every open wall and exposed floor joist brings us closer to filling this historic Woodlawn space with art, classes, creativity, and community. 🎨❤️
Phase One is underway. Stay tuned for more progress! 👀

PHASE ONE IS UNDERWAY!

After years of dreaming, planning, fundraising, and believing in what this space could become, Phase One renovations of Bare Hands Community Arts Center are officially underway!

This is a huge moment for Bare Hands.

We are transforming our historic home in Woodlawn into a place where art, culture, creativity, and community can come together year-round—and we are so excited to see that vision becoming a reality.

We’re especially grateful to some of the incredible supporters pictured with us who have helped make this moment possible: Birmingham City Council District 4 Councilor, State Representative Neil Rafferty, Ralph and Mary Helen Crowe, and Doris Jarvis. Thank you for believing in Bare Hands and investing in the future of Bare Hands Community Arts Center.

Now, we need your help to get Phase One across the finish line.

We are approximately $30,000 away from fully funding Phase One—and completing Phase One gets us in the doors and operational! With your help, we can finish this work by the end of 2026 and begin using this space to serve our community.

Every gift—big or small—gets us closer to opening those doors. Consider becoming a recurring donor with a gift of just $5, $10, or $20 a month. Small monthly gifts add up and help us build a strong, sustainable future for Bare Hands.

We’ve dreamed about this for a long time. Now, we’re building it.

$30,000 to go. Help us finish Phase One and open the doors to Bare Hands Community Arts Center!

Our Memorial Altar Box Workshops are a beloved community outreach program of the Día de los Mu***os Alabama festival. Since 2007, trained local artists and educators have guided participants of all ages in creating a meaningful, personal memorial honoring a loved one who has passed away.

Using cigar boxes, photographs, a slideshow, and a wide variety of art supplies, each participant creates a one-of-a-kind memorial that honors the life, legacy, and spirit of someone they love.

These workshops are free and open to the community. Register today through the Eventbrite links in our bio.
