Alabama Possible removes barriers to prosperity through research, engaged learning, poverty simulations and promoting college access and success. We build capacity and nurture reciprocal community partnerships to ensure that our research-driven work is effective and sustainable. We support and create educational equity through the following program areas:

Research: We compile and summarize our research on an annual basis through the Poverty Data Sheet, a comprehensive graphic resource that highlights statewide poverty rates and data related to educational attainment, employment and food security. http://alabamapossible.org/datasheet/

Engaged Learning: We promote engaged learning that combines classroom instruction with thoughtful community and civic engagement. We promote relationship-building between our higher education partners through statewide events such as our annual Lifetime of Learning conference. http://alabamapossible.org/higher-education-alliance/

Poverty Simulations: We coordinate and facilitate Poverty Simulations which are unique, interactive experiences that help facilitate an understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and families who are living at or below the poverty level. http://alabamapossible.org/povertysimulation/

College Access and Success: Our college access and success programs include the Blueprints College Access Initiative and Cash for College. Both programs are designed to promote and build educational equity for low income, minority and first generation college-going students across the state of Alabama. Through the Blueprints College Access Initiative, we team students with near-peer mentors who equip them to make structured decisions about their postsecondary options and support them as they navigate the college admissions process. Through Cash for College, we work to increase the number of students completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). http://alabamapossible.org/media-center/education/

To date, Blueprints has worked with 3,251 underserved high school students in 12 Alabama high schools. Nearly all 780 Blueprints graduates have been admitted to at least one postsecondary institution and earned more than $18 million in supplementary scholarships.

🎓 IT’S OFFICIAL! OCTOBER IS ALABAMA GOES TO COLLEGE MONTH! 🎉

Today, Governor Kay Ivey officially proclaimed October 2026 as Alabama Goes to College Month, recognizing the importance of supporting Alabama students in taking the next step toward their futures!

At Alabama Possible, we believe every student deserves access to opportunities that lead to a brighter future. This month-long recognition shines a spotlight on two critical steps in the postsecondary journey: completing the FAFSA and applying to college.

💙 Today’s proclamation was made even more meaningful by the presence of Annie Mathis, school counselor at Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School, and students Jalek Webb and Taylor Pettway. Their participation reminds us that students are at the heart of everything we do!

We extend our sincere appreciation to Alabama Possible board members Mark Dixon, Glyn Agnew, and Monica Motley for joining us and for their continued leadership and commitment to expanding postsecondary opportunities across our state.

Thank you to Governor Kay Ivey and the Office of the Governor for recognizing the importance of college access and the role education plays in strengthening Alabama’s future.

📣 To every Alabama high school senior: This is YOUR month! Complete your FAFSA, explore your college options, create your Match profile and accept offers, submit your applications, and take that next step toward your future. We’re here to guide you along the way!
