"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world." π±
Big thanks to this small group of volunteers who came out to Greenwood Park today for our Forest Friday tree maintenance! We were able to spread mulch across all 78 trees we had contractors plant this spring, which will help these young trees retain moisture during the hot summer. Shout out to Warby Parker volunteers from The Pizitz and Becca from Cahaba River Coalition for all your help today!
In addition to these trees, volunteers helped us plant 100 trees at this park in East Birmingham in March, making a total of 178 trees we've planted here this year! Did you know Greenwood Park has a unique history rooted in environmental remediation and community revitalization? This 34-acre park was constructed in 2012 as a massive stormwater management project to address industrial pollution in Village Creek, which is home to the endangered Watercress Darter.
Please join us for one of our Forest Fridays this summer! Next up, Highlands (AKA McMahon) Park in Ensley Friday, June 12, 9β11 a.m. Sign up on our website! (L!nk in comments)
