📣 RESCHEDULED 📣 Due to Hurricane Isaias, we rescheduled our first Cool Green Trees Rooted in Community: Volunteer & Community Appreciation Event. *RSVP by noon Friday, 10/16!*

Anyone who has ever volunteered with us and organizations who have partnered with us are invited to join in the celebrations next Saturday the 24th! 🎉🌳

📆 Saturday, October 24
⏰ 1-3 p.m.
📍 High Dive HiFi Lounge and Lakeview Marina Music Park (524 32nd St. S., Birmingham, AL 35233)

Food and beverages will be provided for our volunteers and community partners, with gluten-free and vegan options available. We’ll also have a short awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m. as a thank-you for some special volunteers and partners, so plan to arrive by 1:00 to grab a bite before awards! 🏆

We can’t wait to celebrate with you! We are truly grateful for every one of you, and we plan to make this an annual event to show our appreciation. It takes a village! Please s h a r e and help us spread the word about the new date!

📣 RESCHEDULED! 📣 Due to the potential for severe weather tomorrow, 10/10, we made the difficult decision to reschedule our inaugural Cool Green Trees Advisory Council Tree Planting: Growing a Cooler BHM in Lakeview to next Saturday, October 17!

We need volunteers to help us plant over 50 native trees along the streets of this bustling entertainment district in Birmingham. Our goal is to highlight our amazing Advisory Council members and make this an annual fundraising event, kicking off fall tree-planting season to ensure our program continues for years to come.

📅 Saturday, October 17
🕛 9–11 a.m. - Plan to arrive early to find parking as this will take place while the Pepper Place Farmers Market is also happening.
📍 Meet us on 29th St. S. between 3rd & 4th Ave. S. near Mayawell Bar
👪 Age Requirement: 18+ or minors accompanied by a parent/guardian/chaperone

🥾 What to Bring: Wear long pants, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and closed-toed shoes for safety. Bring water to stay hydrated, sunscreen, bug spray, and possibly a raincoat and hat.

📣 POSTPONED! 📣 Due to the potential for severe weather this Saturday, 10/10, including strong winds, heavy rain, and possible isolated tornadoes, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our two events:

1) Our inaugural Cool Green Trees Advisory Council Tree Planting: Growing a Cooler BHM in Lakeview from 9–11 a.m.; and
2) Our first Rooted in Community: Volunteer & Community Appreciation Event from 12-2 p.m. at High Dive HiFi Lounge Lakeview Marina Music Park

Thank you to UAB Sustainability for having Cool Green Trees at the UAB Solar House and Sustainable Neighborhood Saturday and to our Advisory Council member Dr. Mark Wilson for representing us in the community! 🌞🌳

The UAB Solar House is one of many designated tour sites across the US for the National Solar Tour, which is hosted by the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) every October. This local event makes learning about renewable energy technology more accessible to the public.

Another opportunity to work with Cool Green Trees! 🌲 Apply today for the UAB AmeriCorps Environmental Stewardship VISTA! This temporary position will be from October 16, 2026, to October 15, 2027.

The VISTA will strengthen organizational systems to support effective environmental planning, preparedness, and project coordination. This position will build capacity to secure and manage resources, recruit and retain volunteers, and deliver accessible environmental education and community engagement opportunities. Additionally, the VISTA will improve communication strategies and operational practices that support the long-term sustainability of environmental stewardship initiatives.
