Good Morning. I am aware that many in our community are against spraying, and it is something I do not like to do. Over the past couple of years my shade garden has been overtaken my silt grass, to the point of choking out the native species. Silt grass in a non-native invasive. So I set out to rid my yard of it. I have much success with Fertilome Over The Top II. It did not harm my natives and took out the silt grass. Just a suggestion if you are dealing with an out of control invasive situation. Over The Top is a grass selective herbicide and won’t harm other non-grass species.

My wife saw this yesterday at our local Shelby County Services Building off 280 near Chelsea while renewing her driver's license. Love seeing landscaping being done with native plants.

Rethink. Rethink beauty. Rethink landscapes. For most of my life and I am sure most of yours, I was conditioned to believe beauty was symmetrical, mundane, and predictable. This week I saw one of the greatest challenges to this idea. I visited Sierra Nevada brewing right outside of Asheville, NC. Their beer garden was breathtaking and probably 95 percent natives. Here are some photos I took. Comment if you see something you know, take inspiration, or heck make a visit to Asheville. Be well my friends. https://sierranevada.com/visit/mills-river/taproom/

New plant species recognized in East Central Alabama!

Tallapoosa Cane (Arundinaria alabamensis) is genetically distinct from its well-known relatives, Switch Cane and River Cane. The species is endemic to our state and is known to be in Cleburne, Lee, Macon, and Randolph counties.

Did you know canebreaks historically covered thousands of acres of the southeast and provided habitat for a wide variety of wildlife? These ecosystems are now considered endangered, and its disappearance from the landscape is thought to have contributed to the extinction of the passenger pigeon and Bachman's warbler.

Get the full PDF of the study on the new species here:
