Demopolis Middle School is planting the seeds for something big 🌱

Staff and leadership recently completed the first of three training sessions at the Jones Valley Teaching Farm in Birmingham as they prepare to bring a teaching garden to campus.

The garden will turn “hands-on learning” into the real thing, connecting science, nutrition, and growing things from the ground up! 🍅

A new exercise class location has launched at The Selma Housing Authority's Rangedale apartments through our continued partnership with the Lakeshore Foundation.

This expansion adds to a growing network of community-based physical activity sites that includes multiple churches and a senior center, making it easier for residents to stay active close to home!

This year’s Albert Schweitzer Fellows spent time alongside our Mobile Wellness team creating educational materials and helping connect residents with wellness resources.

Their work through the UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine helped strengthen outreach efforts in the communities we serve, and we’re grateful for the partnership and impact they made along the way.

🎥 Special thanks to the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship of Alabama.

Mobile Wellness has officially hit the ground in Dothan, Alabama!

The launch event brought 26 health screenings directly to the community, with support from local partners and state representatives. Residents had access to no-cost wellness screenings and connections to local resources.

Big thanks to Flowers Hospital and the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center for helping make the day possible.

We think change looks better when the community helps shape it.

Over the past few months, our built environment team has been out in Norwood talking with residents about the kinds of spaces they want to see in their neighborhood, like more places to walk, move, gather, and stay active close to home.

Those conversations helped shape our plans for improvements to the park and basketball courts, which are underway and expected to be completed later this summer! 🏀

After months of preparing garden beds and learning foundational gardening concepts, students and staff at Selma's Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School finally got their hands in the soil! 💚

First graders dropped sunflower seeds while our team, school staff, and local volunteers planted tomatoes and peppers, bringing classroom lessons to life right in the dirt. 🫑🍅

Healthy habits just got a little more fun at the Ebenezer Baptist Church After-School Program in Selma!

Students kicked off the 8-week Healthy Happy Kids program by learning how to build balanced meals and making turkey roll-ups. Each week, students will explore simple ways to eat well, stay active, and build routines they can carry beyond the classroom.
