As we celebrate Juneteenth, a holiday steeped in profound historical significance. This day marks a pivotal turning point in American History-the moment when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom in 1865, a full two and a half years after President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863.

We know this day is more than just a date on the calendar, Juneteenth represents the long and painful journey toward liberty, equality, and justice for our ancestors. It is a celebration of resilience, culture, and the enduring spirit of our ancestors. It is a reminder that freedom is not a finish line, but a commitment.

As we celebrate, let's honor those who endured, those who fought for freedom and those who never got to see the freedoms they dreamed of. On behalf of the MWPHGL of Alabama, we wish everyone a Happy Juneteenth.
