Meet the Judges of DSB 2023!
Rishaan has been dancing Bhangra since the age of 7 years old—his first circuit performance coming in 2007 with Rochester Bhangra Club. After joining First Class Bhangra in 2015, he quickly began captaining and leading the team through set design and choreography the following year. He has since competed at almost 20 circuit competitions with 15 placings at on stages like Bruin, Burgh, Big 10 Bhangra, Buckeye Mela, and Championships of Bhangra. With experience producing winning sets across multiple years, rubrics, and judging panels, he is excited to give back to the circuit while watching the next generation continue to honor the roots of bhangra and push the dance forward.
Pooja Jhaveri has been dancing and choreographing Bhangra since 2013. She has played an integral role in shaping the Bhangra community of Boston as a captain of New England Bhangra Club and as a member of FAUJ. In addition to considerable placings in the USA, she has competed internationally in Australia as well as in the live category in Canada. She has judged at several competitions including Bhangra in the Burgh, Bhangra Blowout, and Buckeye Mela. As a Judge, Pooja looks for teams that bring creativity and unique ideas to the stage, execute with appropriate form and energy, and dance with passion and respect for the traditional folk elements of Bhangra.
