Also recognized was Jackie Palmore, the CSPC’s Palliative Care Coordinator. She received the Cunniff-Dixon Foundation award for exemplary service for more than 38 years in palliative and supportive care nursing. Did you know? Jackie was the first nurse at UAB to earn national certification in palliative nursing!

Are you a healthcare professional who cares for breast cancer patients?

If so, then the Psychosocial Oncology Academy (POTA) is for you! You’ll receive two days of innovative, community-based training that will provide you with the skills needed to enhance the quality of care for breast cancer survivors AND their loved ones.

The next workshop will be held February 27-28, 2026, at the Smooth Rock Conference Center in Vestavia Hills.

Not only is this training 💕FREE💕, but you will also receive up to 17 hours of CME/CE credits. The POTA curriculum covers topics like Psychosocial Distress Screening and Management; Culturally Sensitive Patient-Provider Communication; and Spirituality and Faith-Based Coping. Forge Breast Center Survivor’s Haute Pink 2025 was nothing short of amazing!!💕 The Center’s annual fundraiser was a night filled with amazing women who shared their inspiring stories of survival, while also treating us to a glamorous night of fashion! Everyone looked amazing!

Dr. Helen Krontiras, Medical Director of the UAB Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic, also participated and she looked absolutely fabulous!

POTA and Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center are community partners in supporting breast cancer survivors and thrivers. Lauren Roberts, Executive Director of the Center has served on POTA’s Community Advisory Board.

Please join us for this wonderful community event on Saturday, June 14th from 9-1pm at Avondale Park.

The Center for Palliative and Supportive Care would like to share information about an event coming up on Saturday, June 14th! The Birmingham Community Deathcare presents a Grief in Community public event that will be from 9:00am-1:00pm at Avondale Park, near the Rose Garden. They will be offering some self-paced stations, including art-making, breath work, writing prompts, and a space to be heard. Everyone is welcome!

We had a wonderful time during our two-day training this past Friday and Saturday at the Smooth Rock Conference Center in Vestavia Hills, Alabama! A big thank you to all that attended the conference and helped contribute to its success! We hope that the knowledge provided, and stories shared will inspire those who attended to provide better care to the patients and families that they serve.

Last night, two of our POTA core team members had a wonderful time attending the Haute Pink event held at the Red Mountain Theater! Haute Pink is the marque fundraiser for the Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center. Ten designers are paired with one of our special models to create a custom outfit for the fashion show. All of the models have been impacted by breast cancer as a survivor, co-survivor or previvor. Beth Curry, who works closely with POTA and also is a member of the UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care Community Advisory Board, was one of the models for the show! We were grateful to be able to support her as well as the others participating.
