The article in which a Samford spokesperson basically says, "Yeah we're discriminating, but we're doing it legally!"
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. Granting equal rights to students to form a group DOES NOT equate with university support of the organization's cause. If that were the case, then Samford would be endorsing a whole lot of seemingly antithetical groups.
Dr. Taylor is out here doing interviews about "protecting orthodoxy" and I can't help but think, "Oh, is that the same kind of 'orthodoxy' that kept Black students off campus for longer than any other college in Alabama?"
Samford has been on the wrong side of history before, and the fact of people being q***r AND Christian is not going away. As long as Samford's president and board continue to take the position that they are the end-all-be-all voice of Christian interpretation, it seems they'll be fine with discriminating and making students feel unwelcome and unloved.
I'm here to tell you right now, we will literally NEVER stop pushing for better for Samford students.
Religious schools like Samford University in Homewood can claim exemptions to Title IX.
