Live Like Pop: The Penny Project

Live Like Pop: The Penny Project COVID-19 Memorial Project to Honor my Hero, My Dad aka Pop, and all those who have lost someone to this vicious beast of a virus.

03/01/2023

Live Like Pop is back after a short break from social media. As you all may know, I am a Family Nurse Practitioner in Urgent Care and these past three years have been one big emotional roller coaster. My goal is to reach as many as I can to let them know their loved ones will never be forgotten. As the world continues to make a “return to normal”, for some of us, things will never return to normal, COVID will never be over as it stole our loved ones. Let’s keep their memory alive. I have switched to a virtual submission only, I no longer have the P.O. Box. For those who want to submit your favorite stories/memories/photos of their loved ones lost to COVID-19 for their own virtual penny to be created please submit to me at [email protected] and I will get them added to my website Live Like Pop. Helping others to heal, remember, and share one penny at a time. 😇🌈😇💛💛💛

Happy Heavenly Father’s Day Pop, I will carry you in my heart forever. I’m forever thankful for the time I got with you on earth, although it will never be enough. You gave me the best memories any Daughter could ever hope for. You threw the best afternoon tea parties, fixed the best homemade ice cream, taught me how to swim to the light at the end of the pool, let me cry on your shoulder on the hard days, you knew every cut, every scrape, every broken heart, every funny story. We were so close I almost feel lost without you but I know deep down you’d want me to carry on your big smile, your laugh, your traditions. Live Like Pop was created to honor you and help others remember all the good times they shared because it’s so crucial that we remember how our loved ones lived rather than focus on how they died. If you or someone you know has lost a loved one to COVID, you’re not alone. Please email [email protected] and share with me 3-4 of your favorite memories with a photo which will be added to the permanent memorial website livelikepop.org. Let’s remember and heal together 😇

Today, We honor Michael Eddie Suarez whom his Wife calls “my Love”. Such a beautiful, heart warming first date. Michael is described as sweet, handsome, and a great dancer. Michael and his Wife shared a love for all things Steelers Football. So much so, that they chose to get married the in Steeler’s jerseys the day before the Super Bowl! So much love, a lifetime shared together with so many stories and memories. Thank you for sharing Michael with us 💛😇

Today Live Like Pop would like to pay tribute to Marge Mac Kenzie who we lost to COVID on May 9, 2020. Marge devoted her life to raising four amazing Daughters, loved spending time with her Grandchildren, and baked the most delicious cookies! Pop served others in the community his entire life. He believed in helping as many people as he could. He also believed in cherishing every magical moment we had together. Live Like Pop was started to honor our loved ones lost to COVID with the intention of remembering how our loved ones lived instead of how they died. Today, Live Like Pop would like to honor Ms. Dina Kogan. Dina, like Pop, believed in helping others selflessly and had a great big heart to surround her family and friends with love.

Much love and gratitude to Ms. Katie Mowbray for capturing Pop perfectly! Katie is an amazing artist, if you have lost a loved one to COVID, message Katie about getting a drawing created! As you all may know, this is my favorite portrait of my Dad. I discovered this photo with him several years ago going through old family photos. I love vintage photos so much. My Mom took this picture of him, he was only 16 yrs old at the time. To me, it’s just perfect, he was being his silly self trying to look like a stud in front of my Mom. Little did he know he would one day have a Daughter who wakes up to this photo every morning and remembers all the beautiful memories we shared together. Pop, you will always be my one in a million Dad. I’ll carry you in my heart forever. 💛😇💛

My Dad “Pop” was always a one in a million to me! I feel so grateful that I got the quality time with him that I did growing up. I was always, always a Daddy’s Girl from day 1. It didn’t matter if he was downstairs in the garage working on old VWs or out in the world fixing washers/dryers, I wanted to be right there with him. He even saved all of his tool boxes I used to try to carry around when I would go to work with him. He would let me paint them all different colors and designs. He always laughed because he told me that when I wasn’t with him, customers would chuckle at this 6 ft tall man carrying a tool box painted with sunshine and rainbows all over it then they’d say “you must have a Daughter”. He was absolutely the best Dad any Daughter could ever hope for. It didn’t matter if it was midnight or middle of the day, if I needed him, he would stop what he was doing and coke rescue me. He watched “Steel Magnolias”, “Lethal Weapon 2”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” with me over and over again. And as I got older and began dating his favorite one liner that I’ll never forget was “Nobody puts Baby in the corner”. ( Yes I loved that movie too lol). Now he’s one in the million but he will never be just a number, just a statistic. Pop was way more than just COVID. He will always be the most amazing Dad this Daughter has ever had. I will always cherish the time I had with him and all the memories he gave me.
