The irony of ladies screaming "cat killer" at you for doing an abortion on a cat when you have the biggest cat rescue facility in the state and are personally caring for 41 kittens under 3 lbs... most of them are medical transfers that would have been euthanized at nearby shelters but you are giving them a chance and treating them.

And people are shocked that so many rescue directors have committed su***de in the past few years.

Sweet and nervous Cheryl had a successful spay and abortion yesterday after the first clinic thought she was experiencing some medical issues making it unsafe to proceed. I was definitely confused as I didn't drop off a sick cat that morning. I picked her up and she was immediately seen by a regular vet. She didn't have a temp, overall looked healthy, heart and lungs sounded fine... but had increased breathing due to being so pregnant and all of those babies pushing up against her diaphragm. Cheryl is also a very nervous cat so she was stressed but would calm down with reassurance and pets. The medical issues exhibited earlier? Just stress and pregnancy. I was visibly upset because she missed the opportunity to have a spay and abortion... and I was afraid she would have her kittens before her rescheduled surgery. Dr M asked if I wanted to do it today and that they could do it. They prepped her by giving her IV fluids since it would be hard on her body and kept her overnight. Cheryl is painful this morning so she is getting more pain meds and I will pick her up shortly to continue her care at the rescue. I am extremely thankful because I have lost to many newborn kittens due to sickness and poor health... I have had moms crash during or after labor... I even had a mom die after miscarrying. The mom's life is more important and I will always put her first. I will never purposely let kittens be born when thousands in just this state are dying every week in shelters and outside, never making it past a few weeks old. I have seen the worst of the worst... I have tube fed kittens since birth for WEEKS to still have them all die... I have had to cut umbilical cords because the mom was too sick and weak to do it herself... I and my fosters have had to bury too many. Cheryl was given a gift and her unborn kittens were shown mercy.

Within an hour I've had two people reach out for advice... "Do I let mama continue to care for them or intervene?" We always say to stop stealing nursing kittens from their moms BUT if they look like this, you have to take them away. Look for siblings because they'll all be sick and trap mama so she can be spayed and stop producing sick kittens who will slowly suffer before dying.

Bottle kits and formula are sold at all pet stores and Walmart... and you can buy Miracle Ni***es from Amazon for even easier feeding. Kitten Lady has step-by-step instructions on YouTube and her website.

What a strange day...

She just had a full exam and was deemed healthy so she is going to get some IV fluids and have her spay and abortion plus combo test and etc.

Update: Cheryl doesn't have a fever and her breath sounds are clear so NKAH will do her pregnancy termination today. She likely was having a stress reaction at the first clinic but once she calmed down here, she was fine.

Well crap... Pregnant kitty Cheryl was determined too sick (respiratory) and the decision was made to hold off on her pregnancy termination today and get her started on antibiotics immediately. Since we are already going to New Kelley Animal Hospital to pick up tripod kitty Isosceles, they are going to take a look at her. Her surgery is tentatively rescheduled for next week. The safety of the mama always comes first and proceeding with the surgery with her being quietly sick would have increased fatality risks too much.

Years later and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy saved from backyard breeders still thinks you're his whole world ❤️

Be the change you wish to see in the world and go to your local animal shelter and save a life by adopting a bull terrier puppy. They're so stigmatized and deserve a chance. I have a few purebreds and mixes here and they love their mama soooo much. Extremely loyal and the cats love to snuggle with them.

Been keeping a secret... Meet Isosceles! He is FIV+ and had his front leg amputated at New Kelley Animal Hospital. He is being discharged tomorrow (Friday) and will settle in at the rescue ❤️

Sharing this again since we are getting multiple applications to foster the seal point siamese mama and her babies. I will start responding to apps tonight and tomorrow.

To foster, you must be located in or near Birmingham (30 min out is max) so they can receive vetting and be close enough to me and our emergency vet if a kitten crashes. It happens. It's very common now, unfortunately 💔
