Before finalizing the proposal on the upcoming Highway 280 expansion, the Alabama Department of Transportation conducted a traffic Queue Analysis.
The study was conducted on January 13.

To date, ALDOT has not conducted a thorough study with accurate results of how their plans will affect traffic.

On January 13 2021, the majority of people were not on the roads during high congestion times. Due to the Mountain Brook School System holding a virtual learning day from home, morning school traffic was not accounted for during this study. Additionally, this study was conducted while COVID19 was still forcing many Birmingham citizens to work from home.

In a recent Mountain Brook City Council meeting, ALDOT revealed their construction plans and concerns regarding the thoroughness of the study’s safety and accuracy were mentioned. DeJarvis Leonard, District Director of ALDOT and Richard Caudle with Skipper Consulting responded to these concerns by assuring “there will be a further study.” ALDOT has not yet conducted this further study and is still proceeding with their plans.

You can’t pave your way out of poor planning and ALDOT needs to know that before it’s too late!
