Traffic 41 is now in service!

Our new traffic unit is a 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 WT with a custom Jutland Truck Body from Pine Hill Trailers. Graphics and upfit were completed by Glick Fire Equipment Company. The truck will be used by our Fire Police for traffic control and scene lighting.

Traffic 41 replaces Utility 41-2, a 1990 International / Road Rescue purchased used in 1994. Utility 41-2 has served the Bird-in-Hand community well for the past 32 years.

A few features of the new truck:

• Whelen Core Plus lighting and siren controls with HAAS Alert and Whelen Cloud
• Wanco arrow/message board with custom mounting brackets
• HiViz scene and undercarriage lighting

Thanks to Sauders Motors for helping us acquire the truck, and to everyone who helped get it ready for service. Thank you also to our members for taking the time to complete the equipment and driver training.

The Engine Committee from Hand-in-Hand Fire Company spent the day at Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton, Wisconsin, for the final print approval of our new fire engine before construction begins. All seven committee members were on hand, working closely with our Glick Fire Equipment sales representative, Jake Bachman, and the Pierce engineers to review the plans and work through the customizations we have requested.

It was a very productive day, and we made great progress toward making this engine exactly what Station 41 needs. We still have a few details to finalize tomorrow, but we are excited to see this project moving closer to becoming a reality!

Runners came from all over the country to be here for our annual Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon fundraising event. Many of you traveled a long way to run through our little corner of Lancaster County farmland. Others showed up as neighbors yet again. You came together to support a fully volunteer fire company, and we don't take that lightly.

To the volunteers who worked the course, staffed event needs, directed traffic, and put in the long hours: this race couldn’t happen without you. You stepped up, just like you always do.

The name Hand-in-Hand isn't just a name given to our fire company over 100 years ago. It's how this community works. Every runner, volunteer, sponsor, and neighbor along the route came together once again to help us keep our volunteer firefighters trained, equipped, and ready to answer the call.

We're grateful for every one of you. Thank you.

Thank you to the Pequea Valley Fire Department for providing this important service during our largest fundraiser. PVFD not only provides rehab support for this event but also responds daily to numerous medical emergencies throughout the town of Bird-in-Hand and beyond, delivering top-notch emergency medical care.

Thursday morning at 8:26, Engine 41 was dispatched to assist Station 63 with a commercial building fire. First-arriving units encountered a working fire.

Engine 41 arrived as the second-due engine and completed Engine 63’s split lay. The crew was then assigned to stretch a handline to the roof and worked alongside Ladder 204, assisting with fire suppression and ventilation operations.

Utility 41-1, Utility 41-2, and Fire Police 41 also responded, with members supporting fireground operations in various roles.

Congratulations to Marcus Stoltzfus on successfully challenging and passing his ProBoard Firefighter I Certification!

This nationally recognized certification tests firefighters to the NFPA 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications. A firefighter certified at the Firefighter I level has demonstrated the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively as a member of a firefighting team while working under direct supervision.

This is a great accomplishment and a testament to Marcus’s hard work and dedication.

Congratulations to Lieutenant Christ Petersheim on successfully challenging and passing the Pro Board Common Passenger Vehicle Technical Rescuer – Technician Level (NFPA 1006) certification!

Christ successfully challenged the certification and demonstrated the knowledge and skills required to earn his Pro Board certification.

Congratulations, Christ, and thank you for continuing to put in the time and effort to further your training and better serve Hand-in-Hand Fire Company and our community!

While most people celebrated America’s 250th on July 4th, Station 41 remained busy responding to multiple calls throughout the day, including assisting Station 62 Witmer Fire Protective Association with a working structure fire.

As a result of the severe storms that moved through the area, the majority of the Bird-in-Hand area remains without power. Many roads are still blocked by downed trees, and numerous traffic signals are still not functioning. As the area prepares for the potential of additional severe weather, please continue to use caution while traveling and avoid downed trees and power lines.

This evening members from Station 41 attended East Lampeter Township’s America 250 celebration at Flory Park! 🇺🇸

A special part of the event was honoring our volunteer firefighters from the Lafayette Fire Company, Witmer Fire Protective Association, Hand-in-Hand Fire Company, and Ronks Fire Company who have faithfully served for 35 years or more. Their dedication, sacrifice, and countless hours of service have helped keep our community safe for generations.

Congratulations to all who were recognized, and thank you for your extraordinary commitment to East Lampeter Township. We are truly grateful for your service! 🚒🇺🇸
