🎓 Welcome Home, Bird City Cardinals & Cheylin Cougars!

This week marks the return of one of our favorite traditions - the Bird City & Cheylin Alumni Banquet! Whether you graduated recently or decades ago, we invite all Cardinals and Cougars to come back home for a special evening of reconnecting, reminiscing, and celebrating the memories, friendships, and traditions that make our communities so special.

There’s nothing quite like alumni weekend in Bird City - catching up with classmates, sharing stories, laughing about old memories, and seeing familiar faces once again. We are excited to welcome everyone back for a night filled with community pride, great food, and fun together.

Gabi Pochop recently represented Cheyenne County at the State Youth Entrepreneurship Competition (YEC) in Manhattan!

After winning the local Cheyenne County YEC event in February, Gabi advanced to the state level where she competed against some of the top young entrepreneurs from across Kansas. She not only made it to the final round, but also earned the Conceptual Award along with a $1,500 prize!!

We are incredibly proud of her hard work, creativity, and confidence throughout this journey. What an amazing accomplishment and a well-deserved recognition for all the effort she put into her idea and presentation.

Congratulations, Gabi - what a fantastic achievement!

With heavy hearts, we remember Ken Krien - a true pillar of the Bird City community.

Ken dedicated many years of service to Bird City through his involvement with City Council, the Bird City Community Club, and countless other efforts that made a lasting difference. He was someone who didn’t just live in this community - he invested in it. His leadership, steady presence, and genuine care helped shape the Bird City we know today.

At the family’s request, the Bird City Century II Development Foundation is honored to receive memorials in Ken’s memory. It is a privilege to help carry forward his legacy in a way that continues to give back to the community he cared so deeply about.

“Society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.”

Ken lived that kind of life - one rooted in service, generosity, and a vision for something greater than himself.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ken’s family and all who knew and loved him.
