Birch Run Moose Lodge

Birch Run Moose Lodge The Birch Run Moose Lodge is a family center with many activities and events. Come check us out and maybe you'd like to join our lodge and join in the fun.

ALL EVENTS ARE FOR MEMBERS & QUALIFIED GUESTS UNLESS NOTED "OPEN TO THE PUBLIC" You may have heard the saying, “A burden heavy to one is borne lightly by many.” This is at the core of the Moose organization and what makes us unique in our Lodges, local communities and charitable “cities” that we support. Our roots can be traced to 1888 and the founder of the Moose, Dr. Henry Wilson, who successful

ly established the first Lodge in Louisville, Kentucky. In the early years, the Moose was to serve a modest goal of offering men an opportunity to gather socially, to care for one another’s needs and celebrate life together. Since those early years, our fraternal organization rapidly expanded to include valuable service to our communities, care for children and teens in need at Mooseheart Child City & School , a 1,000-acre campus, located 40 miles west of Chicago and care for our senior members at Moosehaven, a 70-acre retirement community near Jacksonville, Florida. With a combined membership of over 1,000,000 members, our presence is felt in over 1,500 communities across all 50 states and four Canadian provinces, plus Great Britain and Bermuda. The Moose organization contributes between $75 to $100 million worth of community service (counting monetary donations, volunteer hours worked and miles driven) annually. In addition to Mooseheart and Moosehaven, the Moose fraternity’s Heart of the Community effort is multifaceted with internally developed programs like Tommy Moose. Tommy Moose aids in helping children overcome fears and anxiety during times of stress. Donated to law enforcement, fire fighters and other emergency workers, Tommy Moose plush dolls are presented to children in various traumatic situations. The external focus of our service is directed towards many worthwhile national charities, a few of which are: Special Olympics North America, Salvation Army, Safe Surfin’USA Foundation, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, and St. Jude.In our local Lodges, you will find a wide array of activities to participate in both as an individual and as a family. From holiday parties, dances, sports, themed dinners and live entertainment, the Moose has much to offer. Membership can mean different things to different people. You are the one determining what you want to get out of the organization, and what you want to give back. The Moose is about celebrating life together, serving those in need within our local community, supporting our children at Mooseheart and standing by our senior members at Moosehaven

Here is an update on Gary and Kathy’s granddaughter :)

13-Year-Old Lone Survivor of Missaukee County Shooting Rampage Walks Again

MISSAUKEE COUNTY, MI — The 13-year-old girl who survived the deadly Aug. 14 Missaukee County shooting rampage is out of intensive care and has begun walking again, according to her family.

Bella Padilla Everitt was shot at a home on South LaChance Road where her mother, Amanda Everitt, 40, and her brother, Eric Shonn Thomas, 16, were killed. Michigan State Police said five victims died during shootings at several locations before suspected gunman Chad Hickman, 39, was also found dead.

Bella's grandfather, Dave Everitt, told 9&10 News that the teenager was shot four times. He said one bullet passed through her shoulder and became lodged near her esophagus before doctors removed it during surgery. Other bullets remained in her lower vertebrae and side.

Her recovery has nevertheless progressed dramatically. Everitt said Bella has been able to sit in a chair and walk from her hospital bed to the chair. She is also already asking when she can return to school. Earlier reporting said Bella managed to call 911 herself after being shot, helping bring emergency responders to the scene.

Bella is the lone survivor of the shooting spree. Police previously said she was initially hospitalized in critical condition before being transferred to a Grand Rapids hospital for surgery and later upgraded to stable condition. Investigators have said Hickman knew the people involved, although MSP has not publicly announced a motive.

A public memorial visitation for Amanda Everitt and Eric Thomas is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 27, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Peterson Funeral & Cremation Services in Cadillac. The family has asked that donations be made to Bella's care fund in place of flowers.

Lodge 2426 - This is one of those moments we need to come together for one of our own - just like we always do. Tragedy has struck 2 very quality people in our Moose Family - our friends Gary Beck and Kathy Thomas. They lost their Grandson Eric and have a Granddaughter fighting for her life right now.

There will be a memorial service next week for 16-year-old Eric Shonn Thomas. Here are the details:

Many of us will be heading down to pay our respects and show this family love and support when they need it more than ever. We will also be collecting cash donations to assist in Bella's recovery and help ease the burden on the family.

THIS is a big part of what this Moose Family is all about. Please keep Kathy and Gary in your prayers and stop in the Lodge and make a donation.

Please be a part of this if you can.

Thank you all in advance for showing this family that they have support in this difficult time
