What an emotional, yet incredible night at our quarterly 100 Peope Who Care - Rooted in Birch Run meeting! We had 3 wonderful presentations, and our group voted for this quarters funds to be given to Lincoln Brooks & family.

Lincoln’s courageous Mom, Meghan Brooks (pictured below) got up and shared her sweet son’s story. Lincoln is a pre-K student at Birch Run North Elementary and has been diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomysosarcoma. He has a mass/lesion on his right temporal bone area/inner ear. This type of cancer is seen in children ages 2-6, and it originates in the soft tissue/muscle. Lincoln is receiving chemotherapy and will also have radiation treatments. Lincoln’s mom has left her job as an Occupational Therapist to be a full time care giver for her sweet boy during his fight. Financial responsibilities have been placed solely on Lincoln’s Dad, Kyle at this time. Thank you, Meghan for sharing Lincoln’s story with us. We hope that the monetary gift from our group lightens the financial load your family is currently carrying during Lincoln’s FIGHT!

100 People Who Care - Rooted in Birch Run will host our next meeting on May 14th! If you are interested in learning more about our group please send us a message here on Facebook or email us at [email protected].

We had a wonderful night last night at our last meeting of the year! Last quarters recipient, Louie Schultz was present and was able to give us an update on his health! We heard presentations from East Side Soup Kitchen, Love for a Child and BRHS Interact Club. It was a tough choice for our members but, Love for a Child was selected!

Love for a Child serves Michigan’s foster care children through programming that consist of year-round, camps, mentorship and tailored resources. You can visit their website at loveforachild.org.

Last night at our meeting we heard 3 wonderful presentations on behalf of Louie Schultz, Adult & Teen Challenge of Mid Michigan and the East Side Soup kitchen. Pictured below left to right are Janet Schultz, Jeff Flint & Sue Trinklein. Janet is the wife of Louie Schultz, Jeff Flint spoke on their behalf last night and Sue is representing our organization.

Louie Schultz has been a significant part of the Birch Run community all of his life. In November 2023, Louie was diagnosed with bladder cancer. The treatment has also caused an optic nerve stroke in his left eye which is not reversible. The treatments for the cancer involve frequent trips to Henry Ford Hospital with his wife, Janet having to find a hotel room nearby. Anyone who knows Louie knows that he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and will go out of his way to help anyone in need. He is a gentle soul, a great supporter of the Village and Township of Birch Run, and a great friend to all – even people he hasn’t met yet. Our membership voted last night to give them the money to help defraying the mounting costs of these frequent trips to the hospital and for fuel to get there.

Prayers are with the Schultz Family as they continue to fight this battle! WE ARE WITH YOU LOUIE!
