πŸ‘‹ Hey Birch Bay,

We wanted to make sure our community is aware of a proposed change to Whatcom County's fireworks regulations that could affect residents, businesses, and visitors in unincorporated areas, including Birch Bay.

The Whatcom County Council will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, June 23 at 6:00 PM to consider the proposed ordinance.

The Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce is not taking a position for or against the proposal. However, we believe decisions affecting Birch Bay are strongest when informed by meaningful community input and stakeholder engagement.

Neither the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce nor the Birch Bay Community Advisory Committee (BBCAC), the advisory body established by Whatcom County to provide community feedback on issues affecting Birch Bay, was engaged prior to the ordinance being introduced. Both organizations have submitted letters to the County Council expressing concerns about the public engagement process.

As a community that experiences one of the busiest Fourth of July celebrations in Whatcom County, this topic affects residents, businesses, visitors, tourism, and public safety. Whether you support the proposed changes, oppose them, or simply want to learn more, we encourage you to get informed and make your voice heard.

βœ… Attend the public hearing
βœ… Provide public comment
βœ… Submit written comments to the County Council

No matter where you stand on the issue, community participation matters. We encourage everyone to review the proposal and engage in the public process before the Council makes its decision.

Links to the agenda, meeting materials, and information on how to participate can be found in the comments below.
