Literacy Volunteers of Broome-Tioga Counties utilizes trained volunteers to provide free confidential educational services with a learner-centered approach that values and honors each individual student needs and goals. We help adults gain the skills needed to earn a high school equivalency diploma, transition to post-secondary education and career training, enter the workforce, retain a current j

ob or move to a higher paying job, prepare for the U.S. citizenship test, help their children succeed in school, and help their families become more economically stable.

Join us in celebrating Literacy Month at the Literacy Volunteers' second annual Trivia Night! Friday, September 25th, 2026 at the American Legion, 177 Robinson St., Binghamton. Doors open at 6:30, Trivia starts at 7. Food will be provided.

Louie G will host 10 rounds of general knowledge trivia with musical clues. Register a team of up to 8 people on our website https://broometiogaliteracy.org/upcoming-events/trivia/

Entry is $20 per person and there will also be the opportunity to win several fun themed raffle baskets!

All proceeds will benefit the Literacy Volunteers of Broome-Tioga Counties. Come have some fun while supporting adult literacy for our area!

We held our annual Student and Tutor Recognition this afternoon. It was a great time celebrating the hard work of our students and tutors with food, fun and laughter! Thanks to all of our sponsors and everyone who helps make what we do possible! 📖🎉👏

The library will be closed next week from Wednesday, July 15th through Friday, July 17th due to construction. We will reopen at 9:00am on Saturday, July 18th.

Congratulations to Akim Chassang! Akim started studying for his GED with Literacy Volunteers tutor Janet in 2023. Despite facing personal challenges, he worked hard and stayed committed to his goal. He successfully completed his GED, and yesterday he proudly participated in his graduation ceremony with Binghamton Adult Education. 🎉📚📖

📚 Library Closure Notice

The library will be closed tomorrow, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth.

We will reopen on Saturday, June 20th at 9 AM.

BCPL will be closed for the remainder of the week due to fumes from our bathroom construction. We expect to reopen on Monday, April 27th for normal business hours.
All programs and events scheduled during this time will be canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience.
