🚨 WINTER STORM SAFETY MESSAGE 🚨

A major winter storm is forecasted to bring 12+ inches of snow and dangerously cold temperatures to our area. As you prepare, we want to remind residents of a critical life-safety concern: Carbon Monoxide (CO).

❄️ Snow buildup can block vents and exhaust systems, causing deadly carbon monoxide to back up into your home — often without warning.

PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
• ✅ Keep all furnace, boiler, dryer, and water heater vents CLEAR of snow and ice
• ✅ Ensure generator exhausts are NEVER blocked and are kept far from doors, windows, and vents
• ❌ Never run generators, grills, or propane heaters indoors or in garages
• ✅ Check that carbon monoxide detectors are working and have fresh batteries
• 👀 Re-check vents frequently during and after heavy snowfall

⚠️ Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless — you won’t know it’s there until it’s too late.

If you or someone in your home experiences:
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Confusion

🔥Update on todays fire. 🔥

On December 15, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the Broome County Sheriff’s Department reported a possible structure fire located at 2 Edison Ave, while on scene investigating a suspected burglary. Upon confirmation of the fire, a second alarm was requested, bringing mutual aid fire departments from surrounding jurisdictions.
Fire crews arrived promptly and initiated fire suppression operations while simultaneously conducting a primary search of the first and second floors of the residence. All searches were negative for occupants. The fire was brought under control within approximately 10 minutes.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Broome County Fire Investigation Unit in conjunction with the Broome County Sheriff’s Department.
Agencies responding to the incident included the Town of Binghamton Fire Department, City of Binghamton Fire Department, Conklin Fire Department, Five Mile Point Fire Department, Kirkwood Fire Department, Silver Lake Fire Department, Vestal Fire Department, Broome County Office of Emergency Services, Broome County Sheriff’s Department, and the New York State Police.
