Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company Inc. The Town of Binghamton Fire Company was established in 1950 to provide fire service to those who live in the Town of Binghamton.

Since 1950, we have worked closely with those in the community to help others in their time of need. We are always recruiting new members who live in and around the Town of Binghamton that want to help others. Individuals looking to join must be 16 or older and must pass a department paid for physical.

Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company Responds to Structure Fire on Cynthia Drive
Town of Binghamton, NY – July 26, 2026
At approximately 12:55 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, the Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a reported chair and carpet fire at 3333 Cynthia Drive in the Town of Binghamton.
Upon arrival, first-due crews encountered heavy smoke showing from the Bravo/Charlie (B/C) corner of the residence, indicating a rapidly developing fire. Based on the conditions, a second alarm was immediately requested, bringing mutual aid assistance from the Binghamton Fire Department, Conklin Fire Department, Five Mile Point Fire Company, Vestal Fire Department (stations 32-2 and 32-4), Kirkwood Fire Company, and Silver Lake Fire Company. Broome Ambulance and the Broome County Office of Emergency Services also responded to provide support during the incident.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack by deploying two hose lines—one through the front entrance and a second through the attached garage. As the fire extended to the rear of the residence, a third hoseline was deployed to extinguish the exterior fire.
Crews encountered significant challenges while operating inside the home due to heavily obstructed rooms and blocked hallways, which delayed access to the room of origin. During suppression efforts, the second floor collapsed into the room of origin, creating additional hazards for firefighters. Despite these conditions, crews successfully contained and extinguished the fire while preventing further extension.
Once the fire was under control, the scene was secured and turned over to the Broome County Fire Investigation unit. Investigators determined the fire to be accidental in nature. The cause was identified as a candle that had been knocked over by the family's dog.
Fortunately, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company extends its sincere appreciation to all mutual aid agencies, Broome Ambulance, Broome County Office of Emergency Services, and the Broome County Fire Investigation Team for their assistance and professionalism throughout this incident. Their coordinated response and teamwork were instrumental in bringing the fire under control safely and efficiently.
This incident serves as an important reminder to use extreme caution when burning candles. Never leave a candle unattended, keep open flames away from combustible materials, and ensure candles are placed where children and pets cannot accidentally knock them over.
