Last month, Troops 284, 416, and 43 along with several local AOL scouts teamed up with the Waterman Conservation Center for our second Build-A-Box activity. This year they built registration boxes for each of Waterman’s hiking trails, as a donation to the Waterman Center to thank them for all they do to support our local scouts. Great job everybody!

Given that we are the Greater Finger Lakes Council, it makes sense to understand why indigenous peoples day is so important to our area. While there are eleven Finger Lakes, the five most well known are Cayuga, Seneca, Skaneateles, Keuka and Canandaigua. The names of these lakes are all correspond to Native American Tribes or are translated from Native American Languages. For instance, Skaneateles derives from the Iroquois phrase "Ska-ne-a-dies" which is commonly translated as "long lake." While Seneca and Cayuga lakes derive their names from the Cayuga and Seneca Nations within the Iroquois Confederacy.
