The Binghamton Hawks – Playing ExtraOrdinary Hockey
The Southern Tier’s Only Special Needs Hockey Program

The world of hockey can be fast paced and competitive often leaving individuals with developmental challenges off the ice and the team. With the Binghamton Hawks, players with developmental challenges are no longer sitting in the stands or being kept off the bench watching others play. Bingh

amton Hawk players only need to have the desire to be on our team. There are no skill requirements to participate, and players are encouraged to learn at their own speed to score their goals. Players gain self-confidence and self esteem with the help of experienced coaches and mentors. Players build relationships with their peers and learn new skills that carry off the ice to home and school. Most importantly, players are able to take pride in their accomplishments. Players are not left on the other side of the glass looking in, they are ABLE to experience the thrill of hockey and be a part of the hockey community. Every player has the opportunity to learn at their own speed in a safe environment. Players learn:
Good sportsmanship
Working with their teammates
How to skate (or sled)
How to hold a stick
How to take shots and score goals
How to play hockey

Players have the opportunity to:
21 weeks of ice time
Participate in ASHA Tournaments
Team Events & Family Nights

The Binghamton Hawks registers players ages 5 to 18 with special needs including Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Down Syndrome and other health impairments. Adaptive communication and sleds are available to support participation

Our coaching staff is comprised of American Special Hockey Association registered coaches. Our coaches extensive experience with our local Southern Tier Hockey Association (travel and house programs) teaching youth the sport of hockey safely. Our “Mentor” Program offers experienced peer hockey players (minimum age 14) the opportunity to buddy up and be a friend on the ice. Mentor’s have a special relationship with the players building self confidence and social skills. Binghamton Hawks mentors assist our coaching staff on the ice and promote safety and awareness. Beyond the rules of the game, both the players and the mentors form meaningful friendships.

Yeaaaaa Taylor!!!!

The American Special Hockey Association is proud to congratulate ASHA athlete Taylor Esposito on being part of the Binghamton Black Bears third straight Commissioners Cup Championship in the FPHL.

For each of those championship seasons, Taylor has played an important role behind the scenes, providing detailed statistical tracking and game analysis for the team. His dedication, professionalism, and consistency have earned tremendous respect throughout the organization. Coach Brant Sherwood has repeatedly said that Taylor’s work is better and more consistent than Instat, and that his preparation and attention to detail have been part of what helped drive the Black Bears’ championship success.

Those who know Taylor through the Long Island Blues Special Hockey Club and Flower City Eagles already know the kind of teammate and competitor he is on the ice. What makes this accomplishment even more meaningful is the way Taylor continues to champion inclusion, ability, and opportunity through his work in professional hockey.

Taylor’s story is a powerful reminder that talent, commitment, and passion for the game create impact at every level of hockey.

Congratulations, Taylor, we are incredibly proud of you!
