Hey everyone, my name is Joelisse Then! I am a senior majoring in Human Development with a minor in Education, and I have been on JUMP since my freshman year! I began as an intern, then I was ½ of the Fundraising Committee as a sophomore. As a junior the following year, I was the Treasurer! I continued being a part of this organization because I love my JUMP fam as well as everything that it stands for. JUMP has definitely played a crucial role throughout my college journey, as it has allowed me to develop professionally and personally. I am excited to take on this new role and support this year's eboard! ❤️

Hey everyone! My name is Nia Johnson. I am a senior majoring in Human Development and minoring in Education. I have been apart of the Juvenile Urban Multicultural Program since my Freshman year. I started as an intern, was 1/2 of the Public Relations Committee my sophomore year (love you V 🤍) then I became 1/2 of the Mentoring Committee my Junior year (love you too C 🤍). Now this year I will be Senior Advisor. I stayed with J.U.M.P my entire time here at Binghamton because I found my family, I really resonated with the mission and I am big on giving back to my community since they have done so much for me. This year I will also be serving as President of the Student Association. So please do not feel shy to stop by my office to talk about how to get involved on campus or how to contribute to the advocacy of students. If you see me on campus, wave and say hi, I promise you will get the biggest smile from me and a wave back. I can’t wait to see all of your lovely faces on campus! Let’s make this year a great one BU Fam 💚🤍

To end Mentor May, we have 🌟 Mentor Samantha Rivera and Protege Nandi🌟 here’s their experience with J.U.M.P weekend:

Samantha: "Hi everyone! My name is Samantha Rivera and I am a junior majoring in biology with a minor in education. I decided to become a mentor because I feel like it’s important to have someone in your life that you can rely on for anything, whether that be for personal reasons or academically. Growing up, I never really had that one solid person in my life that I felt that I could go to for anything without any judgment. As a result, I decided that I would be there for anyone as much as I could. Even though JUMP Weekend was only one day in person, I made such a great connection with not only my protégée, but the other mentor I was paired up with as well. I enjoyed every minute with them and had a hard time saying goodbye. One of my favorite memories was learning and making a tiktok with them! I’ll always cherish the moments we had together and can’t wait for the reunion ☺️"

Nandi: "It was amazing! I got to know other people but most of all my mentors, you guys are funny and caring. The dances and the culture was amazing and I really cant wait for the next reunion."

As we begin to wrap up Mentor May, we have 🌟Mentor David Perez 🌟sharing his Jump weekend experience✨

David: "My name is David Perez, I'm a junior, and currently majoring in economics. I became a mentor because I was once in a similar position as the kids part of jump weekend and there were lessons, and things that I wish I was told on my way to high school and leading to college. I just wanted to make sure that if no one looks out for these kids, at least I could be there to help them in the slightest so many of the mistakes I made, they wouldn't. My experience was great because I saw myself so much in my protege and it was almost like I was giving my 8th grade self advice to just be a better version of myself early on. Sip and paint was probably one of my highlights for the weekend, seeing as to how we were able to connect and have a good laugh out of the whole experience. I not only made a friend, but unforgettable memories as well."

This Sunday for Mentor May we are featuring 🌟Mentor Jannatul (aka Janna) Naima and Protege Aiden 🌟sharing their Jump weekend experience✨

Janna: "Hi! My name is Janna, I'm currently a senior majoring in Biology and minoring in Theater. I am an EOP student, I come from a low-income family and have faced many challenges with school while growing up. I became a mentor because I can understand how it can be difficult for the younger minority generation and I wanted to be a helping hand to them. My experience as a mentor has been so heart-warming because my protege and I have a special bond and I'm so happy that she was able to open up to me and trust me. My favorite part about JUMP Weekend was definitely paint and sip with my protege. Not only did I got to bring her out of her shell but she also got me to try new things and paint with her. I really enjoyed spending time with her."

"My protege had so much fun during JUMP Weekend. She really liked the people surrounding her. She wished JUMP Weekend was the full weekend instead of one day because she didn't wanna leave so soon. She made new friends and definitely wanted come to come back. She and I also have been in touch since JUMP Weekend and we can't wait to see each other again."

Today for Mentor May we're featuring 🌟Mentor Vanessa Obeng and Protege Hanna 🌟sharing their Jump weekend experience✨

Vanessa: "My name is Vanessa and I am a sophomore majoring in Integrative Neuroscience. I decided to become a mentor because I am the oldest of three younger sisters and found jump weekend to be a great opportunity to influence another young woman. My protégé Hanna and I developed a close relationship during Jump weekend. I loved being able to take her to the forums and show her the lives of college students. By the end of our time she was telling me how much she wanted to attend Binghamton in the future. I loved it."

This week for 🌟Mentor May we have Mentor Jabari Browne 🌟sharing their Jump weekend experience:

Jabari: "My name is Jabari Browne and I am currently a senior at Binghamton University studying Future Media. I became a mentor because I wanted to give a younger person of color all the knowledge I wish I had at their age. Being the first JUMP weekend back since 2019 I thought it was amazing. Next for 🌟Mentor May we have Mentor Robert Provilus🌟sharing their Jump weekend experience:

“My name is Robert Provilus. I am a senior studying Medical Arts. I first became a mentor for JUMP during my freshman year in 2019. I heard about the great stuff JUMP has done and I wanted to be a part of that. I enjoyed the experience a lot and it felt very fulfilling to be a part of something so great. Interacting with the proteges was fun and I saw a part of my younger self in their spirit. With that said I knew I wanted to be a part of JUMP this year. I really enjoyed connecting with my protégés and learning about their lives. I definitely am excited to watch them grow.”
