Whitney Point Fire Dept. is hosting a Swift Water Rescue Technician Level Training, July 23-26 (Thursday to Sunday), a 32-hour class that starts at 8am daily. The class is taught by Bill Matney and it exceeds NFPA 1006 and 1670. This is a hands-on in-water rescue with skill development in simulated environments.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: On Friday, April 17, fire companies will be visting high schools to talk to students about becoming volunteer firefighters. This offers a lot of opportutnities for students including cash stipends as much as $1500 for completing basic fire courses. (More info at )

There is also a $200 refundable tax credit available to volunteer firefighters each year.

There are also many scholarship opportunities for volunteer firefighters. It's also a way to help your community, gain valuable skills, and find out about a number of careers related to firefighting. If you are interested ask at your high school when fire companies will be there, most will be 1 pm on Friday. Or you can stop in at your local fire department on Saturday, April 18, noon to 3 pm.
