Binghamton Shade Tree Commission

Binghamton Shade Tree Commission The Binghamton Shade Tree Commission is an organization of volunteers partnering with the city to restore urban tree populations in Binghamton.

The Shade Tree Commission is comprised of seven Binghamton residents, who are appointed to their seats by the Mayor and City Council. The commission meets on the fourth Monday of every month to discuss outreach, care of existing trees, best practices in planting and species selection, and to review landscaping plans for construction projects within the city of Binghamton. The Commission works in u

nion with City Hall to promote the healthy development of Binghamton’s urban forest, whose benefits are enjoyed by businesses, residents and visitors to the city. Although no expertise is required to volunteer on the Shade Tree Commission, the highly experienced members have included landscape architects, biology and environmental science professors, a certified arborist, urban foresters, and master gardeners. Any resident of Binghamton is welcome to become involved, and volunteer opportunities include seasonal plantings as well as a pruning program to care for existing trees.
