Last week, Dr. Nicole Hassoun participated in a panel at the 16th Braga Meetings on Ethics and Political Philosophy, an annual event by the Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society (CEPS) at the University of Minho in Braga. As one of the leading European meetings in Moral and Political Philosophy, the event offered scholars the special opportunity to present their work and expand their networks.
Dr. Hassoun held a panel, alongside TU Delft doctoral student and researcher Hun Sing Yuen, highlighting the need to rethink traditional individualistic views of humanity in light of today’s global challenges. The discussion explored how philosophical traditions from around the world presented humanity as fundamentally relational, arguing that our identities, moral responsibilities, and capacity for care arise through our relationships with others rather than through isolated individual traits. Panelists also examined how this relational understanding reshaped our ethical responsibilities to future generations, non-human animals, ecosystems, and emerging technologies, offering a cross-cultural perspective on addressing complex global issues.
