✨🚑 BVES IS NOW HIRING 🚑✨

Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad is now hiring full-time, part-time, and per-diem EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics.

Starting rates are as follows:
EMTs- $20-21/hour
AEMTs- $22-23/hour
Paramedics- $27-28/hour

Benefits are listen below:

Medical & Dental Insurance: Full-time employees can obtain medical and dental insurance for just the employee, employee and spouse, employee and child or an entire family. BVES will cover 80% of the total cost for the medical and dental policy for the first five (5) years of employment. Following five (5) years of employment at BVES, the company will cover 90% of the total costs of medical and dental insurance. After ten (10) years of full-time employment with BVES, the company will cover 100% of the total costs for medical and dental insurance.

Vision insurance available.

PTO: Full-time employees are eligible for PTO based on hours worked per week and years of service.

403B Retirement Plan: All BVES employees are eligible to contribute to BVES’s 403B retirement plan. Any employee who chooses to contribute to BVES’s 403B retirement plan will be 100% vested from the start. 3% Employer match after 6 months.

Phew! What a week!

We truly couldn’t ask for a better community to serve. You guys made the last two weekends so much fun for us.

We hope you had a blast at the 2026 Broome County Fair and Spiedie Fest because we definitely did!

Thank you to everyone who put these amazing events together every year. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.

How lucky are we that two of the biggest events in Broome County are in our coverage district? We have had a busy week, and it’s not over yet!

Sunday wrapped up the 6-day Broome County Fair. We provided a stand-by ALS ambulance for the following events:
🚜🛻 Thursday: NY Hot Farm Tractor and Diesel Truck Pulls
🐂🤠 Friday: Rodeo
🚜🏎️ Saturday: Super Stock and Modified Tractor Pulls

We were having so much fun that only one picture was captured all week!

This coming Friday, 8/7, marks the start of the 3-day Spiedie Fest at Otsiningo Park. We will have an ambulance on standby at the event (along with multiple staff members/providers from Broome County Office of Emergency Services), all weekend, including during the concerts. Feel free to stop by and say hi; we’d much rather see you outside the ambulance than in it.

Always remember to have fun, (while staying safe, of course)!

We will see you at 6PM tomorrow for the parade! Hangout in the grandstands and watch as the parade passes right in front of you. Then enjoy the fair until fireworks at 9:30! 🎆

Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad Research Update 🚨

After four years of extensive field research (conducted during heat waves, post-call debriefs, and while parked in the AC 😎), we've reached a groundbreaking conclusion:

🍦 EMS providers are significantly happier when supplied with Frosty Joe's ice cream during hot weather.

While we can't officially prescribe ice cream, our findings suggest it may improve morale, reduce complaints about the heat, and increase smiles per gallon. Further studies are ongoing... and volunteers are always welcome. 😉 To this end, BVES has arranged for our providers to enjoy cool Frosty Joe's products during the hot days of summer.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and if you see our crews out in this heat, give them a wave—they're working hard to keep our community safe.

All events run from 5:30 to 7:00 PM and are completely free. We have bike helmets available in all sizes and our team will be on hand to help find the perfect fit for your kids at each event.

We will also be handing out FREE tickets to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Super Splash Day on July 22nd at each event!
