Thanks to all who came out to our Open Farm Day this past Saturday! It was a beautiful day to get out on the farm and learn about local agriculture.

Additionally, a huge thank you to the 15 local farms and businesses who participated - we appreciate you!

PUMPKIN SMASH is back! 🎃

Smash it, don't trash it! Join Cornell Cooperative Extension Broome County and VINES:Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments for a good old-fashioned pumpkin smash, all for a good cause.

When: Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 am to 1 pm
Where: Broome County Regional Farmers Market, 840 Upper Front Street, Binghamton

What to expect:
🔨 Bring your pumpkins to be smashed and composted (non-painted pumpkins only, please!)
🍂 Got leaves from your lawn cleanup? Bring them too to support VINES Community Compost
🥧 Enter our pumpkin pie raffle
🗳️ Vote on a name for the new VINES compost tumbler!

Can't make it to the event? Drop off pumpkins Nov. 1–7 at the CCE Compost site or at VINES, 15 Tudor St., Binghamton.

It's National 4-H Week, and landmarks all over the country are going GREEN in celebration, including the Security Mutual building in downtown Binghamton!

Since 1902, 4-H has been helping young people learn by doing, build confidence, and grow into leaders in their communities. Here in Broome County, our 4-H youth and volunteers do amazing things every day, and this week we celebrate all of them.

It's Open Farm Day! 🚜🍂

Today's the day, Broome County! From 10am–3pm, hop farm to farm and discover everything our local agricultural community has to offer — animals, fresh produce, fall treats, and family fun around every corner.

📖 Grab your Open Farm Day passport at any location — visit 4 or more farms and you'll be entered to win a prize!

Open Farm Day is tomorrow, Saturday, October 3rd from 10 am to 3 pm and it looks like we might luck out with some sun!

Here are some helpful reminders as you plan your Open Farm Day!

1) Wear boots, Many of the stops are active, working farms, and may be muddy.
2) Bring cash. Not all locations accept credit card.
3) Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty. Some locations are offering interactive activities or the chance to pet animals!
4) Don't forget to pick up a passport at any location - if you visit 4 or more you can enter to win a prize!
5) Have fun! Open Farm Day takes place rain or shine!

It's scarecrow contest time!

Head over to Otsiningo Park to check out all the scarecrows and vote for #41!

Voting will be open to the public at Otsiningo Park, beginning Thursday, October 1st , and will end on Saturday, October 24th. Voting Area will be located near the start of the Scarecrow Displays. Winners will be announced on Monday, October 26th !

Our CCE system is going through a handful of changes right now, and we wanted to let you know so you're prepared when new events are announced soon.

1. Event Registration
Starting October 1st, we're moving to a new registration software called Ideal-Logic. Once it opens, you'll create an account with your name and email. It may also ask for your birthdate when you first sign up, but that information is kept private in the system.

Here's the upside: once you've entered your general information for one event, it will be saved for future events, so registering will take you less time. We'll also be able to create real waitlists and manage them much more easily. Parents and guardians can add their children to their account and choose them from a dropdown menu when signing up for programs.

2. CCE Website
Our website is also transitioning on October 1st and will be down for a couple of days (starting sometime today) while the new information loads. The address will stay the same, ccebroomecounty.com, but the site will look different once it's back up. (see attached photo)

3. Newsletters
Our email system will also be changing sometime in the next few weeks. If you receive email communications from us, you'll be transferred to the new list automatically, so there's nothing you need to do. Newsletters may look a little different when you start receiving them again.

We're happy to introduce our final three Open Farm Day stops! 🌼🎃

Wrapping up the lineup for Saturday, October 3rd, 10am–3pm:

🐐 Wild Daisy Acres — 10 Mill St, Whitney Point
Meet the goats and llama, then browse handcrafted soaps, lotions, sugar scrubs, salt soaks, and lip balms made with milk from the farm. Note: Mill Street is narrow — please proceed with caution.

🍩 Country Wagon Produce — 2859 St Rt 26, Maine
A one-stop shop for local produce, meats, cheeses, and specialty items, plus a bakery with fresh-made donuts on weekends and pony rides just for Open Farm Day!

🌻 Windsor Land Lab ( Windsor Ag Education and FFA ) — 1191 NY-79, Windsor
Meet farm animals, enjoy fall activities and face painting, browse local and student vendors, and take home fresh produce grown by Windsor FFA students — available by donation to support their agricultural education program. Parking is across the street at the high school.
