What's better than delicious, fresh-squeezed lemonade on a hot summer day?

Over the past few weeks, Miss Sierra and some friends from her program set up lemonade stands in the area. Proceeds will benefit local community members who were affected by a recent, devastating fire.

Thank you to all who bought a cup or two to support this cause, and a big WAY TO GO to Miss Sierra and the youth for this wonderful act of kindness!

Our 5th Annual Summer Fun Day was a blast! What a perfect way for our staff, youth, and families to connect, relax, and have fun. Thank you to everyone who spent the day with us playing games, swimming, eating ice cream, and simply enjoying one another’s company!

Some of our youth and staff recently returned from coastal Maine after participating n a mission trip. Working together, they replaced siding, painted, and completed other tasks for those who needed a little help. Of course, they had some fun too - kayaking, trying new foods, and just spending time together. Thank you to all who helped make this trip possible.

The Children's Home is looking for mentors.

Our Ray of Light Mentorship Program pairs adult volunteers with young people who benefit from having one more consistent adult in their corner. Not a therapist, not a caseworker, just someone who keeps showing up on the calendar and follows through on what they said they would do.

It is a one year commitment. You need to be at least 21, and a background check and clearance are required. Full details are in the graphic.

If you have been looking for a way to be useful to a young person in this community, this is a direct one.

The greenhouse is finished!

What started as an empty frame is now a working space where the children in our programs are growing tomatoes, peppers, onions, and cilantro. They have already turned that harvest into salsa. Last week the zucchini became brownies, which disappeared faster than anyone expected.

There is real skill-building happening in here. Planning a planting schedule, following a recipe, waiting for something to grow, and sharing the result are all practice for patience, responsibility, and working alongside other people. It just happens to taste good.

Grab a spoon, the ice cream is on us. 🍦

Our 67th Annual Ice Cream Social is back, and the whole community is invited. Free ice cream, pony and wagon rides, face painting, balloons, live music from the community band, and a full evening of summer fun for the whole family.

Tuesday, August 11 from 5 to 8 PM at the Children's Home, 1182 Chenango Street in Binghamton. Rain or shine, and it won't cost you a thing.

Sixty-seven years in, this is still one of our favorite nights of the year. Bring the kids, bring a neighbor, and we'll see you there.

New site, same mission.

The Children's Home website has been rebuilt. Programs are easier to find, referral information is where you would expect it to be, and it finally works the way it should on a phone.

If you have ever gone looking for a specific program or tried to figure out how to make a referral and gave up halfway through, this is your invitation to try again.
