Schutzengel Working Dog Club operates in the greater Binghamton NY area. We welcome all breeds, train year round and welcome your interest in the exciting sport of IGP. IGP is a sport that requires a high level of dedication to training as well as working together to succeed. A club atmosphere allows our dogs to train under simulated trial conditions and gives each handler, from the first time beg
inner to seasoned competitor, the advantage of feedback and discussion of performance. Practices are held weekly (Saturday morning) and handlers are encouraged to work together outside of official practices, as this sport requires daily reinforcement of learned skills. IGP is a physically demanding sport and as such you should speak with your veterinarian before participating to make certain your dog can participate safely. Our training philosophy is deeply rooted in the latest advances of learning theory. In all three phases (tracking/obedience/protection) the goal is for the dog to perform at its best, in drive, and with a clear thinking head. If you are interested in training with our club, you must attend and be on the training field for 4 consecutive weeks to observe and learn the IGP sport. If after the 4 week period you are still interested in IGP, you may then bring your dog. As trainers and handlers we are working hard to teach our dogs to be thinking dogs, to understand the tasks at hand, and to eliminate any conflict that could damage the dog/handler bond. Done correctly, IGP training showcases one of the highest levels of teamwork you can ever witness between a handler and dog, while simultaneously proving the dogs genetic worth as you clearly see instinct in action
