From the Gobi Desert to the negotiation rooms of 🌎

Our Binghamton University students are putting their learning into action in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. After seeing firsthand how desertification is affecting nomadic and semi-nomadic communities, Rebecca Silber, Matilda Fillion, Ariel Esposito, and Andrew Cohen are now engaging with international negotiations, panels, and conversations focused on land restoration, climate resilience, and gender equality.

They’ve had the opportunity to sit in on negotiations, connect with policymakers and advocates, and learn from leaders working at the intersection of climate and social justice.
We’re so proud to see our students representing Binghamton and the Kaschak Institute on the international stage, and bringing these experiences back to our community. 💜 Read more about this experience in BingU News!!!

🌎 Four of our students are headed to UNCCD COP17! 🎊

Today, four students from Binghamton University (/the Kaschak Institute) are traveling to Mongolia to take part in UNCCD COP17, the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

While there, our students will have the unique opportunity to sit in on international negotiations, observe global leaders working to address land degradation and desertification, and bring their findings and experiences back to the Binghamton community!!

✈️ Safe travels to our four student delegates! We can’t wait to follow their journey and hear what they bring back to Binghamton.

Are you passionate about social justice, gender equality, climate justice, and research that creates real impact?

The Kaschak Institute is seeking a Lead Researcher to oversee student research projects, mentor a team of researchers, and contribute to meaningful work that supports women and girls locally and globally.

✨ Gain hands-on research experience
✨ Develop leadership and presentation skills
✨ Build your professional network
✨ Work alongside dedicated faculty, staff, and students

📍 6 hours/week
📍 $1,440 per semester
📍 August 2026 – May 2027

Wrapping up the 2025–26 school year feeling really grateful for this community we built 💚

This year we hosted events, attended conferences, worked on community projects, supported clean energy initiatives, welcomed new students, and created so many opportunities for students to learn outside the classroom. None of it would’ve been possible without our amazing students, ambassadors, faculty, partners, and alumni.
