We have a variety of active, engaging, and informative events planned for students, faculty, and staff throughout October. From awareness tabling and the Red Flag Walk to community service and more, there are plenty of ways to get involved ✨

🌍 Join us tomorrow for a special GEF Brown Bag Learning Series! 📣📣📣

The Kaschak Institute has partnered with the Global Environment Facility (GEF), an international organization that funds projects addressing global environmental challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, and land degradation.

Through this partnership, a Binghamton University student has had the opportunity to serve as a Research Fellow with the GEF’s Gender Team, contributing to research on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and leadership in environmental programming.

✨ GEF-9 Core Indicator on Women’s Empowerment and Leadership: Lessons and Best Practices from GEF Integrated Programs

This session will explore how environmental programs can move beyond simply counting women’s participation toward strengthening leadership, meaningful engagement, and empowerment. We’ll share findings from a benchmarking study across GEF Integrated Programs, gender-responsive indicators, and practical approaches for environmental and sustainable development work.

Today is International Day of Peace. 🕊️ Around the world, conflict continues to affect millions of lives. According to the 2026 Global Peace Index, 103 countries were involved in external conflicts over the previous five years, nearly double the 59 recorded in 2008.

Today is a chance to reflect on what peace means and how we can create more understanding within our own communities.

Today is International Equal Pay Day. While progress has been made, pay gaps still exist around the world. In 2024, women in the U.S. earned 85 cents for every dollar earned by men, according to Pew Research Center.

Today is a reminder that everyone deserves equal pay for equal work.

Join us on 22 September for The Power of Care and the Environmental Crisis, an interactive virtual dialogue exploring how strengthening care systems can advance climate resilience, adaptation, and a just transition.

The climate-care nexus has gained unprecedented recognition through the Belém Gender Action Plan (GAP). Hosted by UNFCCC, UN Women, and the Climate & Care Initiative, this webinar will bring together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to deepen our understanding of the climate-care nexus and identify actionable pathways for integrating care into the implementation of climate agendas.

We’re also excited to share that Kaschak Institute Executive Director Lorena Aguilar will be moderating the event!

Today, we honor the generations of Indigenous women who have carried their cultures, traditions, and histories forward, and celebrate the women and girls leading, advocating, and inspiring today. We also recognize that indigenous women face higher rates of violence and abuse, poorer health outcomes and higher barriers to accessing education, economic opportunity and political participation and rights.

September 5th is the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Women and Girls: a reminder to recognize their contributions, amplify their voices, and keep advocating for their rights, well-being, and visibility.
