Hello to all. I am Thomas, a District IX health Educator covering Stone, George, Pearl River, Hancock, Jackson, and Harrison Counties. Today, I want to inform ALL Moms, Mothers, and Madres about the local WIC services and Infant/Child Car Seat distribution.
There are certain myths moms might not know about the eligibility or services that WIC and the car seat program provide.
WIC FACTS:
-WIC covers infants and children to age 5.
-The eligibility for WIC is for single Moms who make less than $26,973. For couples, the cut-off is $36,482.
-SNAP or TANF eligibility is much lower, but you can have SNAP or TANF and automatically qualify for WIC.
-You can have SNAP, WIC, and TANF at the same time.
-Wic has a new APP to track your funds and where to buy the foods offered.
-WIC now has a debit card just like EBT for SNAP.
-Undocumented migrant workers and Illegal aliens can receive WIC and will not be reported to immigration or ICE.
CAR SEAT FACTS AND DISTRIBUTION.
-Anyone who receives WIC, SNAP, TANF, or other governmental services or supplemental programs qualify for a free car seat.
-Anyone who receives WIC, SNAP, TANF, or other governmental services or supplemental programs qualify for a car seat free of charge.
-All car seats expire and should not be used after expiration.
_ You should not sell or give your car seat to anyone.
- If you wash your car seat, it takes the fire retardant off over time. One of the reasons for expiration dates.
-I distribute car seats on Wednesdays at the WIC office in DiIberville by appointment only.
-Occasionally, I will set up car seat checkpoints around the counties to ensure your seat is viable and properly installed.
If you need WIC, call your county's local Health Department or WIC office. If you require CAR SEATS, call me at 228-432-3414 or email me at [email protected] and setup an appointment. Have a great Mother's Day Weekend.
