Yellowstone Bluegrass Association

Yellowstone Bluegrass Association Welcome to the Yellowstone Bluegrass Association. Our mission is to promote the education and enjoyment of bluegrass and old time music. The jam is open to all.

We hold bluegrass jams weekly at the Blue Creek Church in Billings Friday nights at 7:00. Come, pick a few tunes, and meet a few friends. If you don't play, feel free to come and listen. Our goal is to make available information about activities such as concerts, jams, and other happenings in our community and region. Meet and follow bands that are members of our association and view upcoming conc

ert schedules by nationally known bands that will be playing in our locale. And yes…we would like to invite musicians in our area who enjoy playing bluegrass and old time music and even those of you who just like to listen to our type of music to join our organization. Here is what our music scene is looking like:

Friday, June 5:
- YBA Weekly Jam starts at 7 pm at St. Andrew Church, 180 24th St. West. The Garden Room and the Sanctuary will both be available for jamming. Come on in and choose the group that suits you best. Bring a guest if you like.

- Saturday, June 6:
- Strings & Things 8-9 pm on Yellowstone Public Radio, KEMC at 91.7 fm. Ed Pierson is host this week and says that listeners will enjoy the Buckley Family album, Montana Glide. Then "rural folk piano" stylings of George Winston will glide from the radio waves. The piano of Philip Aaberg holds the acoustic super group, NewGrange, together through traditional pieces as well as original material. Jonathan Stout will then amaze and delight listeners with his solo chord melody swing arrangements on his 1930's Gibson L5 archtop guitars. Tune in. Your ears will appreciate the rich and rare tones.

- Tuesday nights: Slainte Irish Session at BarMT on Montana Ave., Billings. This group of fine Billings area Celtic Music musicians meet each week at the pub to take you on a traditional trip back to the olde country in an Irish Pub where the music is grand. ☘️ 🍻 cheers!

Here’s the low down for music in our neck of the woods:

- Friday, May 22:
- YBA Weekly Jam starts at 7 pm at St. Andrew Church, 180 24th St. West. The Garden Room and the Sanctuary will both be available for jamming. Come on in and choose the group that suits you best. Guests are welcome.

- Saturday, May 23:
- Strings & Things 8-9 pm on Yellowstone Public Radio, KEMC at 91.7 fm. Ed Pierson is our host with this great show: our ears will be ringing in a good way with the sounds of banjos. The pickers of these banjos are folks from North Carolina. “Salute!” We’ll hear Terry Baucom, Jim Mills, Raymond Fairchild and my wife’s favorite, Earl Scruggs.
We’ll also hear about a unique connection that one very small North Carolina town has to some Montanans’ passion for elk and elk hunting. Yesiree! See you on the radio.

- Tuesday nights: Slainte Irish Session at BarMT on Montana Ave., Billings. This group of fine Billings area musicians meet each week to take you on a mystical trip back to the olde days in an Irish Pub where life is grand. ☘️ 🍻 cheers!
