Being an early childhood educator asks a lot of us. Long days, endless patience, and hearts that are all in, every single morning. But the rewards?

They’re everywhere. In the first time a child sounds out a word, the belly laughs during story time, the tiny hand that reaches for yours because they know they’re safe.

To the parents who trust us with your little ones: thank you for letting us be part of your village. You don’t just drop off your children each day, you share them with us, and that’s a gift we never take for granted. Raising a child was never meant to be done alone, and we’re honored to walk alongside you.

It takes a village. We’re grateful to be part of yours. 💛

Emotion Coaching “The Gottman Method, simplified”

How you respond to your kid’s emotions in the hard moments is the architecture of their emotional intelligence.

After studying hundreds of families for 40+ years, psychologist John Gottman found one parenting style that produces dramatically better outcomes across the board: the emotion coach.

These parents treat big emotional moments not as problems to fix, but as chances to connect and teach.

Gottman’s 5 steps:
1️⃣ Notice the emotion, before you react to the behavior
2️⃣ See it as a chance for connection and teaching
3️⃣ Listen and validate with real care
4️⃣ Help your child name the feeling
5️⃣ Set clear limits AND problem-solve together

The opposite? “Emotion dismissing” 🔥”stop crying,” “cheer up,” “it’s not a big deal.” Gottman found these kids show lower regulation, more behavior problems, and worse outcomes long-term.

Here’s the grace in it: you don’t have to be perfect.

Research shows even batting 50% makes a real difference.
Think baseball ⚾️ if you’re hitting .500, you’re the greatest hitter in the sport. 💛

The most resilient kids? Often the ones who get emotion coaching and full meltdowns followed by real repair, because they learn hard feelings AND relational rupture are both survivable.

Today’s practice: This week, run all 5 steps during one emotional moment a day. You won’t be perfect, that’s the point. Notice which step feels natural, and which one costs you the most.

Like, follow + share if this could help someone. I am you. You are me. 💛
