Substance Abuse Connect Coalition An action-oriented coalition seeking to substantially reduce drug-related crime and methamphetamine

The Substance Abuse Connect Coalition, formally formed in 2017, is an action-oriented coalition seeking to substantially reduce drug-related crime and addiction in Yellowstone County, MT. The 2020-2023 Action Plan, currently guiding the Coalition, addresses the following Goals & Activities:
- Prevention
- Treatment
- Intervention
- Diversion
- Law Enforcement

The Coalition was reformulated in l

ate 2019, utilizing SIM (Sequential Intercept Mapping) in which almost 150 different individuals provided input and expertise. Incorporating Collective Impact and Consensus-driven Decision Making, the coalition relies on an 11-person Executive Committee for high-level oversight and accountability of the numerous groups and action committees doing on-the-ground work.

Rock31 Member Amanda Stonerock with Stonerock Business Solutions was featured by KULR8 News for aiding the Yellowstone County Detention Facility in receiving four grants totaling almost $1.5 million to help inmates with substance use disorders and mental health.

"This has never been done at our facility," Amanda said. "And we are actually piloting the first comprehensive program within the State of Montana."

"This will be the first time that we actually see criminal justice, mental health, substance use, supervision, everybody really work together within the facility," she added. "There are lots of little pockets of programs within our community right now, but nothing within a jail facility."

So far in 2022, 20 percent of cases received into the lab contain fentanyl, according to Misty Icard, a chemistry supervisor with the forensic science division.
