💛 This story is a powerful reminder that every gift matters.

From a $1 contribution in 1965 to donor support today, generosity has helped the Ranch grow, improve its spaces, and serve more youth over generations.

We are grateful for every donor who chooses to be part of that lasting impact.

The Donald Nutter Dining Hall was truly built by many hands and kind hearts.

Recently, John Whyte, our Admissions Coordinator in Great Falls, shared a special piece of Ranch history: a 1965 letter from Executive Director Franklin Robbie thanking John’s parents for their $1 contribution to the Ranch.

That single dollar represents something much bigger. During the campaign to build the new Dining Hall, gifts of all sizes came together to help the Ranch grow and serve more kids.

At the time, Robbie wrote that 80 boys were living on campus, with only 10 empty bunks, while requests for new placements continued each week. The Dining Hall was the Ranch’s “chief construction program,” even as a Montana winter slowed its progress.

The Dining Hall opened in 1966, welcoming 450 people to celebrate.

Nearly 60 years later, that $1 gift is a wonderful reminder: generosity has never been measured by the size of the gift, but by the heart behind it.

In Miles City, Glendive, and Colstrip, YBGR teams provide services that help youth and families stay connected to support within their own communities. Strong collaboration among these teams helps them continue showing up with consistency, care, and shared purpose.

💛 Donor support helps strengthen the care youth receive at every level of Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch.

Tra Williams, Director of Clinic Operations and Director of Nursing at YBGR, helps coordinate care across programs and supports the nurses and staff who work directly with youth each day.

For Tra, the impact of that work becomes especially clear when he reconnects with former youth in the community and sees how far they have come. One young woman he knew during a difficult point in her care later shared that she had a job, bought a car, and was preparing for college.

Stories like hers are a reminder that progress can take time, consistency, and a full team of caring professionals working behind the scenes.

💛 Every successful completion represents meaningful progress and a young person moving forward with new skills, support, and confidence.

Donor dollars help provide funding for therapeutic group home services across Montana, helping youth receive care closer to home and continue building toward what comes next.

From April through June this year, 11 kids successfully completed their treatment at our therapeutic group homes, marking an important next step in each of their journeys.

Today, 47 kids are receiving care in group homes across Montana, where caring teams provide structure, support, and opportunities to build the skills needed for what comes next.

A successful completion of treatment is more than a number.

It represents progress made, challenges overcome and a young person moving forward with new tools and greater confidence.

We’re proud of these 11 kids and grateful for the dedicated staff who helped them reach this milestone!

💛 Something good is coming for good neighbors.

Yellowstone Foundation is launching the new Good Neighbor Grant Program, an annual initiative created to strengthen mission aligned nonprofit organizations serving children, youth, and families in Montana and across the Mountain West.

Beginning September 1, eligible 501(c)(3) organizations can apply for one of five $5,000 grants to support projects, programs, or general operations that align with areas such as youth mental health, education, family support, vocational training, and other services that help young people thrive.

Strong nonprofits help build stronger communities, and Yellowstone Foundation is proud to invest in organizations doing meaningful work alongside us.

📚 Back to school looks a little different at Yellowstone Academy.

Yellowstone Academy operates year round on a trimester schedule, helping students maintain consistency in their education while receiving care at Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch. Shorter breaks between trimesters can help youth stay connected to classroom routines, retain what they have learned, and continue making progress toward their academic goals.

For students who may have experienced interruptions in school, that consistency can make a meaningful difference.
