Did you know the Canner Educational Foundation began in 2010 with an initial investment of just $23,916.92?

Today, that original endowment has grown tenfold! Along with three additional endowments and the generosity of our community through the Adams County Giving Spree, the Canner funds provide more than $30,000 every year to support programs and opportunities that enrich the educational experience of students in the Upper Adams School District.

From classroom enhancements to special learning opportunities, these funds help make a difference in the lives of our students — today and for generations to come.

But the Canner Educational Foundation’s story has never been just about money. It’s about people coming together because they believe in our children and their future.

What a night! 🖤💛
We had such a great time walking together in the Homecoming Parade The Canner Foundation was joined by teachers, donors, and some pretty creative students who made wonderful posters to help us celebrate what makes our schools so special. Nights like this remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and supportive community.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supports the Canner Educational Foundation. Your generosity makes it possible for us to say yes to opportunities that go beyond what the school budget can provide—opportunities that give our students experiences, resources and memories they may not otherwise have.

And we want to do even more.

This past year, we received more great ideas than we had funding available to support. We had to turn away some wonderful opportunities simply because there wasn't enough money to fund them all. We don't want a lack of funding to be the reason a great idea has to stop.

That's why the upcoming Adams County Community Foundation Giving Spree means so much to us. Every gift helps us reach more students, support more teachers and turn more great ideas into reality.

If you've never participated in the Giving Spree, we hope you'll consider joining us this year. It is a heart warming experience all around! And if you've supported the Canner Foundation before, thank you—we hope you'll continue to be part of what we're building together.

UAEA and The Canner Foundation walked together in the Homecoming Parade last night to celebrate the opportunities and resources provided to Upper Adams schools this year.

The Adams County Community Foundation annual giving spree is approaching. It is one of the largest giving sprees in America; make sure you add it to your calendar!

Cue the drum roll......

Thanks to your incredible generosity, the Canner Educational Foundation raised $2,749.20 for Imagination Library!
Add our $1,000 match, and that’s an amazing $3,749.20 for local children!
At $31 per child for a year, we’ve funded 121 children to receive a book every month! That’s 1,452 books heading into the hands of children.
And we’re making our donation during the Giving Spree, so our gift can grow even more through the incentive pool!
121 children. 1,452 books. One incredible community. ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to the Upper Adams 250th Committee for selecting the Upper Adams Canner Foundation as one of the recipients of proceeds from this wonderful celebration. We are honored to receive this generous $1,000 donation, which will help fund teacher grants in the Upper Adams School District.
These grants support special projects, innovative technology, field trips, and new learning opportunities that make a meaningful difference for our teachers and students.
We are so grateful to everyone who helped make the 250th Celebration such a wonderful success and, most importantly, to a community that continues to invest in our schools and our students. Thank you for helping us make a difference! 🖤💛

The Upper Adams 250th Committee selected the Upper Adams Canner Foundation as one of six local nonprofit organizations to receive proceeds from the Upper Adams 250th Celebration held in June. Presenting and receiving the $1,000 donation are (left to right): Upper Adams Committee Members Danielle Helwig and Brandee Little; Canner Foundation Board of Directors members Katie Schroeder and Tom Wilson; Biglerville Borough Mayor Phil Wagner; and Upper Adams Committee Member Kelly Shaffer. CANNER NATION, YOU DID IT!
One week ago, we launched our Imagination Library Challenge, pledging that the Canner Foundation would match community donations up to $1,000. We thought it might take a month.
We are thrilled to say—we were VERY wrong!
As of this morning, our community has donated an incredible $2,531! Add the Canner Foundation’s $1,000 match, and we will be contributing $3,531 to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Adams County.
That’s enough to provide 114 children with a FREE book every month for an entire year! 📚

The funds will be donated to the Imagination Library through the Adams County Community Foundation’s Giving Spree on November 5, 2026.

Reading with a young child is about so much more than the story on the page. It helps build the foundation for a lifetime of learning.
When parents and caregivers read with their children, they help develop:
Language and listening skills
Vocabulary and communication
Thinking and comprehension skills
An understanding of how books and print work
A love of reading and learning
Even before a child enters kindergarten, those shared moments with a book are preparing them for success in school — and beyond.
This is why getting books into the hands of children from birth through age 5 is so important. Every child deserves the opportunity to build their own home library and discover the joy of reading. ~Lindsay Knouse, Reading Specialist at Biglerville Elementary.
