Ira Ellsworth Lady (Company A, 316th Infantry, 79th Division), born April 15, 1891, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram C. Lady of Arendtsville. He taught in the public schools of Adams County from 1908 to 1911. On November 6, 1917, he entered the service and posted in France. While leading his company during the Argonne drive he received a severe wound which resulted in his death on November 22, 1918. He was 27 years of age. American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville is named in his honor.
Harry Milford Taylor (7th M. G. Battalion), born November 14, 1891, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor of Aspers. Having taught in Adams County public schools for three years, Taylor enlisted during the summer of 1917 with the 7th Infantry Band. In the spring of 1918, he was sent overseas, transferring to the Sanitary Detachment of the 7th Machine Gun Battalion. He was serving with this unit when he was killed in action on October 25, 1918, just two weeks before the armistice was signed.
