Dornix Park Located in Big Timber, Montana, Dornix Park has Boulder River access, over 3 miles of recreational trails, and many opportunities for wildlife viewing.

Dornix Park, owned by the City of Big Timber and maintained by the Friends of Dornix Park, is situated on the banks of the famed blue ribbon trout fishery, the Boulder River. The park's fifty acres of meadow and forest land sits adjacent to Big Timber's original 1883 town site called Dornix, meaning "small round stones" in Gaelic. Dornix Park has over 3 miles of maintained trails. Popular activities include fishing, hiking, and bird watching.

💚 Dornix Park is honored to be a 2026 Give Where You Live recipient!

A huge thank you to the Sweet Grass Community Foundation for organizing this amazing community wide fundraiser, and to every donor who chose to support local nonprofits. Because of your generosity, Give Where You Live raised a record $301,956 for organizations serving Sweet Grass County!

Your support helps Friends of Dornix Park care for this special 50 acre riverside park, including its trails, dog park, open spaces, wildlife habitat, and connection to Big Timber’s community past.

We are truly grateful to live in such a caring and generous community. Thank you for helping keep Dornix Park beautiful, welcoming, and enjoyed by all!

A little bit of nature magic from Dornix Park! 🦉

Your donations made an important difference at Dornix Park.

The White House, built around 1900, was once a rental home for many local families. Community members have shared memories of living there or having relatives who did. Its beautiful hand fitted rock foundation is a reminder of the early craftsmanship and history woven into our community.

Over the years, the aging roof left the building vulnerable to water damage and continued deterioration. Donations, along with the generous support of the Community Thrift Shop, made it possible to protect the White House and help prevent this historic building from being lost.

The park is city property, yet the Friends do not use tax revenue from citizens of Big Timber for any park expenses. Park upkeep and improvements are made possible through donations, grants, fundraising, and volunteer efforts.

This project was about more than repairing a roof. Your support helped preserve local history, honor the families connected to this home, and keep a meaningful part of Dornix Park standing for future generations.

We hope to continue honoring the White House with a sign and groomed path so visitors can learn about and appreciate this special place.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday at the Give Where You Live event!

It was wonderful to see our community come together to support 20 local nonprofits, including Dornix Park & Dog Park.
We hope you had the chance to learn more about who we are, the work we do, and how Dornix Park continues to be a special place for people and pets to enjoy.

🐾 Thank you, Roger! 🐾

Roger Sanstad, a Dornix Park Board member and dedicated volunteer, has spent many hours mowing and trimming the dog park grass and removing large rocks. We truly appreciate his hard work and care for the park!

This summer, we temporarily closed the small dog park to give our nesting osprey family some needed space. After learning from Dr. Marco Restani of Yellowstone Audubon that activity below the nest was making the mother osprey uncomfortable, we wanted to help protect the nestlings during this sensitive time.
With the osprey family now on its way, the small dog park has reopened, so our community can once again enjoy both dog park areas. 🐕💚
