Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday at the Give Where You Live event!

It was wonderful to see our community come together to support 20 local nonprofits, including Dornix Park & Dog Park.
We hope you had the chance to learn more about who we are, the work we do, and how Dornix Park continues to be a special place for people and pets to enjoy.

We truly appreciate your interest, encouragement, and support. Thank you for helping us care for and improve this community treasure! 💚🐾

🐾 Thank you, Roger! 🐾

Roger Sanstad, a Dornix Park Board member and dedicated volunteer, has spent many hours mowing and trimming the dog park grass and removing large rocks. We truly appreciate his hard work and care for the park!

This summer, we temporarily closed the small dog park to give our nesting osprey family some needed space. After learning from Dr. Marco Restani of Yellowstone Audubon that activity below the nest was making the mother osprey uncomfortable, we wanted to help protect the nestlings during this sensitive time.
With the osprey family now on its way, the small dog park has reopened, so our community can once again enjoy both dog park areas. 🐕💚

With grateful hearts, we remember Gordon Dean Boyd—a lifelong Montanan, devoted National Park Service ranger, and wonderful supporter of Friends of Dornix Park.

Gordon’s love for the outdoors, Big Timber, and the people in this community was evident throughout his life. We are deeply thankful for his generosity and for the lasting impact he leaves on the places and people he cared about.

The White House roof project at Dornix Park is finished!

We are deeply grateful to the Community Thrift Shop for funding the final stage of this project. Your support helped preserve this historic stone building, built around 1900, and keep an important part of our community’s story standing strong.

The White House has meant a lot to many people over the years. It served as a rental home for many years, and several people have shared special memories of living there or having family members who lived there.

Its unique hand-fitted rock foundation is a beautiful example of early craftsmanship, with each stone carefully chipped and fitted by hand.
This building is more than just an old house-it is a piece of local history, a place full of memory, and a part of the landscape that connects us to those who came before us.

We hope to continue honoring it with a sign and a groomed path so visitors can safely learn more about its history and appreciate this special place in Dornix Park.

The young ospreys at Dornix Park have been flying and practicing- great signs they’re getting ready for life on their own.

Young ospreys typically fledge at about 50–55 days old, and now that they’re airborne, the real learning begins. Over the next couple of weeks, you may see them honing their skills and beginning to hunt. Most juveniles catch their first fish within 10–14 days of fledging.
During this time, the male osprey continues to care for them, bringing food and helping them build strength and confidence, while the female usually begins her migration journey.

If you’re visiting the park, keep an eye on the sky and the water—you might catch one of these young ospreys in action. If you do, we’d love to hear about it or see your photos.

Our osprey family is thriving- three healthy babies and a watchful adult (pictured on the far right). The young ones have officially started flying, which is always an incredible milestone to witness!
This marks the 5th year we’ve had ospreys nesting at Dornix, and it’s become such a special part of our park community. If you’re visiting, keep an eye on the nest. You might just catch them in action!

We’ve got a great update on the White House roofing project at Dornix Park!

Bluebird Roofing will be completing the project soon, with new shingles going on the White House. We’re excited to see this project fully completed.

We’d like to extend a sincere thank you to the Community Thrift Shop for awarding us a grant to help make this project possible. We truly appreciate their support of our park and community!

Fun osprey fact:

One of three osprey nestlings banded at the Dornix Park nest in July 2023 was observed wintering on North Padre Island, Texas in 2023 and 2024.
