Such a great tool 💜

Some children grow up believing fear is normal. That shouting is just part of family life. That love has to be earned. That nobody is coming to protect them.

Childhood ends, but its impact often lasts a lifetime.

Early experiences of abuse, neglect, domestic violence, addiction, mental illness or other serious adversity can shape how a person thinks, feels, trusts, learns, forms relationships and copes with life for years to come.

Many adults are still living with the impact of a childhood they never had the chance to talk about.

Children do not need perfect parents. They need to feel safe, loved, protected and valued.

A safe childhood is not a privilege. It is the foundation for everything that follows.

For kids in care building safe, stable, and trusting relationships with adults isn't just nice to have—it's vital. It's also really hard -- often they struggle to trust.

When youth in care lack consistent adult connections, the impact follows them into adulthood. But when we work upstream by surrounding children in foster care with loving foster families, dedicated mentors, and strong support systems today, we do more than offer immediate stability:

💙 We prevent future crisis and instability.

💙 We give youth the tools and connection needed to thrive as adults.

💙 We break the cycle of generational foster care before it continues.

Every child in care deserves a community that stays. You don't have to foster to make a difference—mentors, volunteers, consistent encouragers and community supporters all play a role in building these life-changing connections. 💙

Father's Day is next Sunday. For some kids in care this can be a difficult day so it's a good idea to plan ahead.

Things to consider if you have kids in your care this Father’s Day ⬇️

❤️‍🩹 understand that mixed emotions are normal
❤️‍🩹 ask kids about their feelings on the holiday
❤️‍🩹 consider ways to include bio fathers if kids want
❤️‍🩹 come up with a plan, discuss, and offer choices
❤️‍🩹 manage expectations with your bio kids

Join Virginia's Kids Belong and Tennessee Kids Belong as we partner together with others for this exciting event to kick off Foster Care Awareness Month (a day early!)

Every Child, Every Family: A Foster Care Summit will be held THIS THURSDAY April 30 from 4p-7p at Bristol Motor Speedway.

This is a free chance to learn about becoming a foster parent and to ask those burning questions that are keeping you from saying YES to a child who needs a safe, stable, loving home to grow, heal, thrive and belong.

If you are anywhere in the Southwest Virginia area or Northeast Tennessee you are WELCOME!

Need more info -- just ask!

The first STEP is awareness… like what we did there 😉…. Are you up for supporting a great cause?

The first STEP is awareness… like what we did there 😉…. Are you up for supporting a great cause?

A number that stopped us in our tracks.

368,000.

That's how many children are in foster care in the United States right now. Not a statistic. Not a headline. 368,000 real kids waiting for safety, stability, and someone to show up for them.

This May, in honor of National Foster Care Month, we're doing something about it.
We're walking one step for every single one of them as part of our Heroes in Motion challenge and we need YOU to walk with us.

Every step you take = a child being seen.
Every dollar raised = real, meaningful support for ALL of the programs we run here at Friends of Foster Care.

From mentorship to resources, from awareness to action, your steps fuel everything we do for foster youth in our community.

368,000 steps. 368,000 reasons. One powerful month.
