Today is Veterans Day. Our nation has observed Veterans Day in some form since November 11, 1919--the first anniversary of the end of World War I (then it was known as Armistice Day). Veterans Day is a day to pay tribute to all American veterans who have served our country in either war or peacetime.

There are approximately 18 million veterans living in the United States, the majority of whom served during at least one war. Please join us in taking some time this today to thank a service member for the sacrifices they have made for our country.

Congratulations, Kevin!

MECC would like to recognize Kevin Cooper. Kevin is from Dryden, Virginia and the son of Vicki Shoemaker and Kevin Cooper Sr., and the grandson of Betty Kirk and the late Vincent Kirk. He has been in Phi Beta Lambda for over 2 years and club President for one year. He has attended two PBL State Leadership Conferences and one National Leadership Conference. Kevin currently plans to attend UVA-Wise this Fall and major in Business Administration. Eventually, he would like to become a Marketing/Business teacher. Kevin is honored to receive this award and have enjoyed my time at Mountain Empire Community College and a PBL member.
