Today, the Big Sandy Area Lions Club had the opportunity to spend some time serving the children and families at the Truman W. Smith Children’s Care Center in Gladewater.

Truman W. Smith is a special place that provides compassionate medical, rehabilitative, educational, and recreational care for medically fragile children. It is a facility that reminds us how important it is to come together as a community and support those who need a helping hand.

Our club was blessed to be able to deliver three full boxes and one full bag of school supplies, along with lap blankets and special non-slip socks to help provide comfort and safety for the children. The staff graciously accepted the donations, and we were grateful for the opportunity to contribute in a small way.

We don't share this to brag about what we've done. We share it because service is what Lions are about, and we hope it encourages others to look for opportunities to make a difference in their own communities.

A big thank-you to everyone who helped collect and provide these items. And a special thank-you to the wonderful staff at Truman W. Smith for the work they do every day for these children.

We were honored to be welcomed today, and we hope this is just the beginning of a lasting relationship. We look forward to finding more ways to serve and support the children and staff in the future.
