Box 17-J
Structure Fire (Basement Fire)
Kentucky Avenue, Henderson Township

The Engine Rescue responded.

The call was dispatched as a working basement fire. While responding, the Chief upgraded the assignment, requesting three additional tankers along with the initial first-alarm assignment.

Prior to the Chief’s arrival, a Big Run firefighter arrived on scene and discovered a working fire on top of the stove that was beginning to extend into the floor joists. Thanks to the firefighter’s quick actions, he was able to knock down and extinguish the fire using an ABC fire extinguisher.

Upon the Chief’s arrival, it was determined that the firefighter had successfully knocked down the fire and that it was believed to be extinguished. Crews would need to ventilate the structure and check for any further extension. The Chief then scaled back the assignment, holding the assignment to only Companies 17 and 8.

The Engine Rescue and Squad 8 arrived on scene simultaneously. Both crews worked together to ventilate the structure and check for extension. No further fire extension was found.
