AkaMya "Honoring our past, by teaching our Future." The Aka-Mya Cultural Group was formed in 1998 by Sage Romero.

After graduating from the Santa Fe Indian High School in Santa Fe New Mexico Sage along with family members and Tanya Montes started a small group which met weekly to provide a safe and healthy place for community to gather, practice, and strengthen their cultural identity. AkaMya has come from humble beginnings into what it is today. We provide cultural presentations, sound system set up and cont

rol, fund raising support, community organizing and volunteering services amongst many other things. Utilizing the strength and discipline taught to us through traditional song and dance, we work hard for the wellness of our communities.

Thank you Benton community and Mono Arts Council for bringing AkaMya to your Community Social night.
We didn't get many photos, but it was a great evening of sharing, dancing and food for the Benton community.
Many thanks to our families that were able to bring some dancers!
After the event, returned to Big Pine and baked Pueblo bread in the rain for the Davis Cherry Blossom Festival on Saturday!

Thank you Bishop Indian Education Center and Bishop Elementary School for another wonderful "STRUT YOUR STUFF" end of school year event!
Students joined in and shared song, dance, and community members Vince Townsend came to help sing, Nichole Lomaintewa shared handgame songs and Paul Chavez brought his flute.
This event is always a great day for students to share with their peers and also include community members to share culture at the end of the school year.
